Title: Last Rites Pairing: Remus Lupin/Severus Snape if you squint a little Rating: G Warnings: References to canonical character deaths Summary: Months after the battle is won, Hogwarts' protectors gather for one last time. Notes: Happy Halloween, sweetie! I hope both the holiday and this little treat I've written for you bring you smiles and joy. I tried to fit in as many of the prompts as I could, as they all fit together so lovely. But, alas, masks eluded me. Enjoy!
Mist covered the rocky peak deep in the Highlands, avatar of the world's veil at its thinnest this night. Within the mist, six shadows stood.
Waiting.
The moon rose slowly and still the shadows stood.
Waiting.
Threshold time.
A chant rose into the night as six points of light cast their circle, mist receding from their center. The light held as six wands lowered and two less distinct shadows materialized at its center.
"Here outside space and time, we meet."
"How theatrical," the drawled reply.
"Severus. I'm following Albus' instructions for the unbinding specifically."
"He greatly overestimated how much time any who moved on would have."
"I doubt a few shortcuts with the school's protection matter now." Remus lay an incorporeal hand on his companion's shoulder and smiled at the others who had leant their power to Albus' spell: Minerva, Filius, Poppy, Pomona, Rolanda. Hagrid, of course. "This is our last chance to speak for many years yet."
"Of course you'd want a nice chat," Severus grumbled, voice lacking the heat it would have held in life. "Very well, let's get on with it. We have an after life to live."
Minerva chuckled sadly. "We've missed you, too, Severus. Now, where was I?"
