Title: One Night Only Characters: Harry Potter, Regulus Black Rating: PG Summary: Harry carries out a Samhain ritual expecting to bring Sirius for the night. Instead he gets Regulus. Notes: I had to stop myself after I went 150 words over and really trim it down. In other words, this idea really struck me, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it, hikarievandar
Harry closed his eyes and began chanting.
It was Samhain, a night when the borders between the worlds of the living and the dead were the weakest. It was when Harry would bring Sirius back for one more night.
He finished his chanting and opened his eyes expecting to see Sirius, but he saw somebody else instead.
They looked very similar to Sirius; tall and slender with pale skin and black hair. But the figure had icy blue eyes rather than grey, and he was entirely soaking wet.
“Regulus,” Harry said, because there was no other person it could be.
Regulus inclined his head.
“Nobody has ever called for me before,” Regulus murmured.
Harry felt sorry for Regulus, a hero who had died alone and was forgotten in death.
“I always wanted to meet Sirius’s brother,” Harry lied, trying not to flinch as Regulus sat down next to him, dripping freezing water onto his skin. “I wanted to thank you for what you did in the cave.”
Harry took Regulus’s wet, cold hand in his. Regulus smiled, and Harry knew then that he wouldn’t mind waiting another year to see Sirius; Regulus deserved a night to feel alive once more.
