Harry watched the red and gold leaves fall to earth, whirling slowly, dancing on the wind...and sighed. Another Samhain, another holiday without family.
"Harry! Look who I brought," Hermione suddenly shouted from the porch.
Professor McGonagall regally tipped her head as Harry raced back to the house.
"What brings you here, Minerva?" he said, pausing only slightly over her name.
"I brought ye a present, a treat if ye will. I've been savin' it for a special occasion, an' since this is Halloween, now's the time." Minerva waved her wand and revealed a painting with three subjects, all of them in outlandish costumes. When one bayed at the moon, Harry grinned; he'd know that howl anywhere.
"Remus!"
Then the tallest figure spun around dramatically, his cape snagging on the third's sword and tumbling them both at Remus' feet. Harry's laugh was bright and warm at the cuss words that filled the air.
"Black, if I didn't love you, I'd strangle you with that cape," came Snape's crusty tones.
"If you'd let me dreth in a leaf, you'd want me under that cape, Thev," Sirius lisped past fangs laughingly.
