Minerva McGonagall’s will was peculiar, to say the least. It had seemed odd at the time that Minerva should leave Severus her small home on the shores of Loch Tay, but that had been nothing compared to finding the letter on the mantelpiece.

Severus walked the road to Lawers in the gloaming, his path lit by the light of a full moon. The hour was late as he stepped out onto the burial grounds, and he almost tripped over the Disillusioned headstone.
“It’s just like Minerva.”
The unexpected voice startled Severus, and he didn’t have time to hide the flush of mingled embarrassment and pleasure that colored his cheeks. Hermione Granger, tucked into a pumpkin-colored gansey, looked equally disconcerted.
“You, too?”
Before Hermione could reply, a figure appeared at the edge of the graveyard bearing the unmistakable form of the woman herself. Minerva stood as if on the edge of a great precipice, looking younger than either of them had ever seen her. Before the fog off the loch swallowed her for the last time, Severus could swear he saw her wink.
“Happy Samhain, Severus,” Hermione whispered, sliding her hand into his.
