This is lovely and sad. I really feel for your Pomona--how much Alice's love felt ephemeral even before the attack on the Longbottoms, and how Pomona strives to love her effectively after it. Her observations of and worries for Neville are stark and heartbreaking, and I can't help but think she might be regretting the loss of her own parenthood--that Neville was meant to be raised by Alice and Frank and Pomona.
