This is such a sweet story, and such an interesting exploration of how people's complexities and imperfections and quirks so quickly get absorbed into someone else's narrative when they're no longer there to tell their own story. Alice is glorious here, sweet and independent and practical, and she and Pomona are both so full of love. What a lovely ending - sad, of course, but happier and more hopeful, and so much more lighthearted, than what had come before, where the inherent good-heartedness of everyone involved makes everyone a little better off than they were before.
