(this is hannelore, sorry, I'm having such a terrible time trying to get Open ID to work...)
oh wow, this is *so,* so wonderful mystery author! I had to read twice before commenting, there's so much here that really captures what you've written with Alice and Pomona's relationship... I'm also such a huge Neville fan, so it was a wonderful bonus to listen to Pomona's part in his life from childhood to hero and then such a utterly heartfelt ending.
I absolutely LOVE how you have Pomona's remembrance of Alice as a person (not just as Alice-and-Frank. I adore this: because in the years since their torture they have been reduced to a single unit.), I really like the idea of Alice having been a stellar Herbology student who decides she can weave Herbology into being an Auror (perfect!) and how it is Alice who decides what, and particularly whom, she wants.
I adore the scene of Alice and Pomona in bed, how realistic the conversation and how Alice feels her ideas about wanting children are practical and reasonable, wanting to have it all.
I also have to mention that I love how you brought Augusta into this, you truly keep them all very much in character and it makes so much sense that Augusta is hot and cold about Pomona's involvement, but then by the end is accepting in her own way.
And the ending! I love how you weave Neville's brave moment into the flashes of life that Pomona and Alice have shared, of Neville, of how much she sees of Alice in her boy... then to the beautiful scene of all of them together in the garden. Thank you so much for this Beholder treat, I will certainly come back to it again and again! <3
