This is spectacular. A story of complex relationships, not just between Filius and Griphook, but Filius's relationships with his co-workers and his parents and himself. All three of them, Filius, Griphook, and Neville, are so affectionately drawn, with all their flaws and loyalties intact. And, because of his heritage, it's Filius who's caught in between - Griphook and Neville both know their loyalties to their own dead, while Filius has been living a double life and hoping that those loyalties never conflicted, the irony being that he's the peacemaker because he's less comfortable in his own skin. What a careful, rich exploration of Goblin culture through the observations of a man who's half in it and half out of it, and a man who's continuing to make his one small stand for his own culture. I love the fic ending in a difficult, unresolved fashion, but with the sense that each character has been true to himself.
