OMG! You reduced me to squealing like a teenager when I saw what pairing you had picked and and when I sensed what might come of it. (I honestly hadn't imagined this pairing even though I suggested both characters as ones I'd like.) And then the actual story... This was better than anything I could have imagined.
There are so many perfect, telling details along the way: the dog/wolf comparison, the heat from Griphook, the the uncomfortable not-quite--a-laugh that I gave just before reading that Fillius had made a "yelp that is half laugh, half hurt".... I'm in danger of quoting the whole thing back at you.
The different characters' ways of seeing things are like those double images that can combine together to make up a 3D picture when one sees them both at once. And yet the three viewpoints here won't merge. They can't. They are too far apart. And trying to bring the different views together just hurts. It hurts in a way that feels true. Very true.
And the more I try to say how much I love this story, the more I babble. Thank you mystery author. It's hard to be coherent when I'm this excited, and when the story already says things better than I could ever hope to.
I think I'll go run in circles and squeal some more now.
