This is beyond brilliant, and not the least of it is your gorgeous, gorgeous language. Seriously, you make me envious. Your descriptions, the dialogue, the fresh and unique imagery - you've blown me quite away with this. And I am not even talking about how wonderfully you brought this rare pair to life, and gave us such a believable view into how the Dursley's disappearance must have felt like from their friends' point of view. It is one of the great things about fanfiction that it explores such side lines of the major plot, and you did so beautifully, and in the process created a whole new world of your own.
I was so struck with this passage. It characterises Piers and his Muggle sense of magic awesomely. All winter he had had the strongest, strangest feeling the leaf burst would not come this year, but proof otherwise surrounded him, right on schedule; even the ash trees were coming into leaf. His outstretched fingers trailed at the bark, hunting for luck as he passed.
