Oh, brava, Mystery Author! I love Amelia Bones, and I love seeing her fight and love and not take crap. It's great to see her so level-headed in the face of danger, and the end is so fitting – sad because we know what will come, but also a relief because we know she'll go fighting for her values. Your Poppy is the perfect companion for her, and I like the glimpses you give us of their relationship, as well as the many, well-done nods to canon, like the explanation of the monocle and the reference to wizarding optometry (as practical as those artificial eyes may be; I somehow prefer the mental image of Monocle!Bones to that of a Mad-Eye Amelia).
Tom Riddle -- her reports called him by his true name -- Great! In my brain, she always does that, too. I never could quite warm up to the fact that the Wizarding World used the name he chose for himself; even using "Voldemort" is paying him respect.
Amelia saw a vaguely familiar woman's face in her tilting vision, heard a Scottish brogue say something she couldn't make out -- Trust her to do the practical things.
Beautiful fic all around, and a great beginning to the fest!
