Yikes, I'm sorry it's taken me a few days to finish reading and comment on this! As ragdoll said, my internet was extremely uncooperative for a bit (always at the worst possible times... ::grumble::), and then I spent two days driving from Philadelphia to Tulsa. And then a day recuperating from the drive. Heh. Anyway! I did at least manage to make it back to comment before reveals! Yay???
Initial reaction upon seeing this when it was first posted: OMG YAY, someone wrote me Moody fic! \o/ Oooh, Moody/Viktor?? Man, that pairing never would have occurred to me. How cool! Ooooooh, and they wrote me fairly LONG Moody/Viktor fic! ::dives in and starts reading -- until internet goes poof:: Aaaaarrrgh!!!
Reaction now upon having finally finished reading it: OMG, someone wrote me REALLY AWESOME Moody fic! Abiparhkpcaun, YAY!!!!!!! \o/
(Okay, yes, I might still be a little incoherent from the loooong drive, but I'll try to be a little more detailed than that. ;) )
I love the descriptive writing and huge amount of detail in this. The scene feels gritty, and so does Alastor, for that matter. You've captured his paranoia and "constant vigilance" perfectly here, but have also given him several more dimensions beyond that. The brief moments of longing for comfort but refusal to waste time and focus dwelling on such things are particularly insightful.
I also adore Viktor's wit here. As Moody points out, no Tri-Wizard champion would be dull, and you've made him quite sharp and a person who knows who he is and what he wants despite his youth. You've also written his imperfect English wonderfully here; I can absolutely hear his voice in the words.
Yes yes yes, their banter and exchanges are great! They play off each other well, and they're both so very frank and direct. No mincing words with these two. They really do complement each other well, don't they??
And the sex... !! ::drool:: Alastor not wanting to be the butt of any jokes, and them both wanting it, and Viktor's arrogance, and the frottage, and the bed banging the wall, and thirty seconds as an overestimate, and... Abkufah, YAY!!!
Aaaaand, yay for Alastor surviving the war! (Hey, no body = no death, right??) And double yay for him maybe finding some happiness and comfort after it all. Also: awww. :)
