Peter's is a story that's just been begging to be told, and yet I don't think I've read such a detailed consideration of him before now. You do a fine job with his insecurities, his resentments, his willingness to excuse himself, his never-extinguished hope that somehow, he might fit in if he just pleases people enough. Of course he'd be ripe for Lucius's pickings, and you show how easily and gradually these sorts of political seductions can occur. The other characters are nicely IC, too. Lots of telling details, such as Peter's response to the photos in the newspaper: but somehow Peter felt that the stillness made it worse.
