Before I say what I'm about to say, I have to state for the record that the first time I saw this I had an ear-to-ear grin plastered on my face. It's lovely and real and lihgthearted and I loved the representation of Molly and Arthur as an older couple--and not modeled after the actors who played them! The originality really impressed me, so I bookmarked it and have clicked it a couple of times to appreciate it again
But then today I went to the American Visionary Art Museum with a friend, and there in a the book/card show was this image...a photo in black and white, on the front of a card. It's just sort of disappointing to me that the above drawing was taken from that photo.
Don't get me wrong--this is beautifully done, and I'm not pointing fingers and screaming "PHOTOSHOP!" or anything. It's obviously something you put pencil to paper and drew yourself (I really hope). But I think it would only be right to add a disclaimer stating that this was inspired by a photograph.
That's all. I feel like I'm starting wank or something...but I felt the need to say something, as someone who was struck by the image and is now a bit disappointed.
