Additional Likes and Dislikes (Important Note: your artist or author is not required to take these additional preferences about setting, era, tone, etc. into account, but it might help them come up with ideas, so include as many as you like. This is not the space for hard and fast triggers or squicks; those should be placed in the list of elements that you are unwilling to receive above.)
About my "likes," generally: I adore complex characters dealing with internal conflicts; marginal characters granted a measure of dignity and interiority; and realism. I tend to like romances that deal with larger issues of gender, patriarchy, and/or queerness as well as the specific personalities and situations of the couple involved. I also love politics in fic, whether that means dealing with the Ministry, the Order, or the motivations of the Death Eaters--or with issues of power, identity, privilege, and oppression more generally. I love stories about the adult characters in the books, and I'm both Marauder- and Snape-friendly.
About my "dislikes," generally: I'm sadly R-rated; I *do* love to see my characters having sex, I just don't want to know too much about it (i.e., nothing too explicit, unless it's an integral part of the story). I'm not fond of humiliation; power plays without a real investigation of their consequences; casual misogyny unless it's an integral part of the story, treated seriously (and that includes offhand comments about "girliness" and gender-specific derogatory language).
But in the end, I just love the diversity of characters and stories in this fest, so I'm happy to give and receive fic with all sorts of characters and plot lines--if you're writing for me, please write a story you love, and I'll love it, too.
Mod, if you can't tell from this sign-up, I'm flexible! I'm happy to tackle whatever you throw my way, so long as the recipient is happy with low ratings.
