Additional Likes & Dislikes (Important Note: the giver isn't required to take these additional preferences about setting, era, tone, etc. into account, but it might help them come up with ideas, so include as many ideas as you like)
[NOTE: As an author, I’ve come to appreciate this section. Even if, ultimately, I don’t directly use any of it, I’m very glad for a place to start brainstorming--hence the double drabble length additional notes.]
Likes: happy endings (not the stereotypical fairytale ‘and-they-all-lived-happily-ever-after’ sort of ending, but that pragmatic determination to shrug off the slings and arrows of life and make one’s own happiness); angst; hurt/comfort--I’m not averse to major hurt (rape, torture, etc.) so long as there’s some commensurate comfort; respectful, sensual descriptions of how the fatness/oldness/conventional unattractiveness of the characters is attractive in their partners’ eyes (either right away or through a gradual growth in appreciation); firsts and virgins (though established relationships are good, too); magical settings (as opposed to muggle); shyness, especially if it’s unexpected; awkwardness--whether in conversation or romancing or sex; learning to live and love with permanent injury or disfigurement; world-building; places in wizarding Britain (or the rest of Europe) JKR hasn’t shown us; humour; protagonists who might be uncomfortable being different or having different tastes from their peers/society but who unapologetically carry on being themselves anyway (or maybe they take pleasure in being contrary); I’m not opposed to threesomes (and het-focused Vincent/Millicent/Gregory would be particularly delicious); I’m also ok with well-handled cross-gen (but please do not have any student-teacher relationships beginning while the younger member is still a student) However, if none of this piques your fancy, don’t worry--I’ll be happy as a clam just to see a fic about one of my chosen characters (okay, I’ll admit to one disclaimer -- so long as you remember the premise of the exchange, I’ll be overjoyed with what I get).
Dislikes: whitewashing the characters or writing them like stock romance novel character roles; paint-by-numbers porn (porn can be good, but if it’s just a generic sex scene without the quirks, idiosyncrasies, and flaws of the particular characters, it can be more of a turn-off than anything; also, imperfect sex is much more fulfilling and interesting to read than a flawlessly executed sexual gymnastics routine); catty women as protagonists; Dudley as the father of a magical child; [[These next elements used to be on my ‘unwilling to receive’ list when it was 10 items, so strong dislike: incest; self-injury/suicide; student-teacher relationships beginning while the younger member is still a student; severe AU (e.g. they all live in California and magic doesn’t exist; mild AU points are fine, including EWE and Snape and/or Crabbe surviving)]]
Note: I’d be willing to write something dark and twisted and unrelentingly unhappy; I’d just rather not receive it (well, I’m ok receiving dark & twisted, just not unrelentingly unhappy).
