Eric Bowling, the wonderful muggle who arranged for "Muggles, Wizards, and Fans in the World of Harry Potter" at Comic-Con 2008, has created a Yahoo Group for fans of both Comic-Con and Harry Potter in order to help plan future events at Comic-Con International. So go join HarryPotter4ComicCon and put in your two cents!

    Littleroo27 @ Comic-Con
Yup, I have a 4 day pass *preens* and will likely be there at some point each day. I'm trying to figure out a way to identify myself as...myself, but I will at least put "littleroo27" on a badge or sticker or something, so if you see me there, PLEASE come up and say hi!!! I'm very friendly and lacking in axes or other implements of death, and am generally just a squishy 28 year old fangirl.

I look kinda like this )

    Preview Night!
    Comic-Con is officially here!!!

Today there is badge registration (a great way to avoid the crazy lines tomorrow), as well as a Preview Night for those lucky enough to have a four day pass. Preview night lasts from 6 pm to 9 pm and allows you first look at all of the sales booths, as well as the Events Guide, so you can have everything planned out ahead of time!

If you've yet to take a look, all of the event programming is now posted. And don't forget, Sunday at 10:30 am is "Muggles, Wizards, and Fans in the World of Harry Potter"!!!

Panel members Erin Pyne (author of A Fandom of Magical Proportions), Sue Upton (senior editor of www.the-leaky-cauldron.organd co-host of Pottercast), Melissa Anelli (author of Harry: A History), and Heidi Tandy (webmaster, Fiction Alley) will have wands at ready as they discuss what makes Harry Potter fans so different from members of other fandoms. How has the HP fandom affected the development of the books and movies? Moderated by notorious Muggle Eric Bowling. Room 2

Comic-Con 2008 Events - Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday
Comic-Con has finally posted the list of speakers and events for Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday!

So far, there is only one Harry Potter related event, but there are two more days that haven't been finalized, and plenty of other fandoms to enjoy.

Wednesday Night is Preview Night and can only be attended by those with a four day pass.
Thursday's events can be seen here.
Sunday's events can be seen here.

I suggest that if you have a particular fandom that you adore, go to the links above and do a key-word find, such as "Buffy" or "Star Trek". This will show you all events where people related to those genres will be present, and you can plan your time accordingly.

In other news, the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival 2008 Schedule has been released, so go check it out!

See you there in two weeks time!

Looking for people to hang out with - Torchwood/HP fans?
Hi, and first off, thanks to littleroo for this comm. Great idea.

So here's my question - I'm an HP fan. I have been since Goblet of Fire came out and I alternate between being totally drenched in the fandom, to staying on the sidelines and lurking. I am also, however, a Torchwood and Doctor Who fan, and if I decide to go to CC, the reason will be because both John Barrowman and Gareth David-Lloyd are going to be there, and I'd love to meet them. They're two British actors who rarely come to the states, so getting a chance to meet them is, for me, a huge deal.

That said, I'd love to meet up with some HP fans who are also planning on attending whatever TW events are going on, on the day I'm going to be there (I know there's a big overlap in the two fandoms). I'm currently trying to decide between Thursday and Friday. I'm in San Francisco normally, but that week I have to be in Los Angeles anyway, for family reasons, so it's not a long drive for me to come down.

I have a car (will have it with me) and am happy to offer a lift to whoever wants to meet up with me (assuming the distance isn't prohibitive). I only request no smoking (I'm allergic).

I'm rarely on IJ, but I can be found on LJ quite a bit. Same username. :)

I've decided not to go. Hope those of you who are going have a great time! :D

    Hello! (echo, echo, echo!)
Hi there to the three people that are watching this who aren't me! Ah well, good things start small, right?

I want to make it clear that you are welcome to post here, even if just to say that, yes, you will be at Comic-Con, or you wish you could be there, or whatever!

Anyway, I just wanted to pop in with a few updates to the Comic-Con 2008 website.

Warning: The 4 day pass and tickets for Saturday are now SOLD OUT!!! Get your tickets while you still can for the remaining days!

Comic-Con is offering free shuttle service from certain locations directly to the convention center. The map has been updated and can be found here.
    • I would highly recommend taking advantage of this or another form of public transportation, such as the trolley or bus system, as parking is expensive, time consuming, and a general pain in the rear. Really, why pay $20 to park in a lot that's farther away than the trolley stop?!

You can find the first page of the 2008 Exhibitors List by going here. There are also links to the small press and fan tables from that same page.
    • If you've never been to Comic-Con before, it is a mad-house. It's not a bad idea to check out the vendors online ahead of time so that you don't forget to stop by their booth once you get there.

    • Another helpful hint would be to go with comfort over fashion. I know a lot of people dress up in crazy awesome outfits for Comic-Con, but I'd suggest sticking with your most comfortable pair of sneakers no matter what. You'll be walking on cement floors covered with a very thin carpet all day, and there is no padding between the floor and your back!

    Welcome to hp_at_comicon!
This community was created simply because I wanted to know who else was coming to Comic-Con this year! Hopefully those of us who are in the Harry Potter Fandom can find each other and maybe even organize a meet-up!

I live in San Diego and would be happy to help you find your way around town, explain how the busses and trolleys work, or just suggest a good place to eat after a long day at the convention center!

If you are still thinking about coming, think fast! Last year Comic-Con sold out completely before it even opened!

You can buy tickets from the Comic-Con Official Website

SD Commute can help you plan a trip using the bus and trolley system and sell you the ticket to ride!
