Back in Arizona Rosemary would've thought that going to a restaurant and eating alone was just sad but in the past few months, she's learned to think differently. She knew absolutely no one when she first came to China and several months after that--other than a couple of acquaintances--that hadn't changed much. So in other words Rosemary had gotten very used to taking her meals alone and most of the time it didn't bother her too much.
This current evening found the young woman sitting in Mimi's with a plate of some meat stuffed ravioli in front of her, her flats hidden underneath her chair and her legs tucked beneath her body. Her mobile Helper was balanced on a denim clad knee and a single ravioli was hanging limply from the fork in her hand. Rosemary had been happily plowing through her meal a few minutes ago when a clap of thunder had scared her out of her wits and barely three seconds, it started to rain. It was pouring outside, coming down in absolute sheets and all Rosemary could do was stare out the window incredulously. She had biked here. She had opted for the ten minute bike ride from the dorms, not paying much mind to the charcoal gray clouds above (which made her a total idiot) and now she would have to bike back in torrential rain in a white t-shirt. There was no way she was riding back with her hair all wet and looking like a rolling peep-show.
"Don't this just beat all?" Rosemary grumbled to herself. She shoved the piece of pasta in her mouth and winced at the cold, gluey mess it had turned into while dangling from her fork. A soft beep came from the Helper in her lap and Rosemary looked down to see a little cloud icon pop up at the corner of the screen, animated raindrops falling from it and the words 'Strong chance of thunderstorms' floating beneath it. She glared down at the machine.
"Shut up you."
