He had started to smile when Aleks said he was all right, and he nodded, clapping the younger man on the shoulder. His smile stalled, however, when the threat tumbled out of his mouth, and it turned briefly into an expression of shock, and no small amount of irritation, either. Maybe it was in the rules, to threaten dudes that married your twin sister, but Gus, personally, didn't see the goddamn need for that shit. He raised an eyebrow high, mouth tight.
"I'm not an upstanding citizen by any stretch of the imagination," he said in a low voice, "But I'm not a big enough low life that you need to threaten me into behaving myself. Point taken, man, but you don't have to mad dog me like that. I was busted for robbery, not aggravated assault."
He cleared his throat, not wanting to dwell on it for one reason in particular - the woman upstairs. Gus flicked his eyes towards the ceiling, listening to her shuffle around for a moment, and returned his attention fully to Aleksey. He forced his smile to return and shrugged his shoulders, spreading his hands in an 'Anyways...' type of gesture.
"So besides breaking legs," Gus said with genuine humor, "What else are you into?"
