Who: Jaz Parks & Dean Winchester
Where: Tombstone
When: Tuesday
Warnings: Language, possible explicit references. Will update as required.
Summary: Jaz and Dean explore the new stop.
Status: Closed/On-Going
Ghostly Encounter: opt-in/out: In

Chewing her lip, Jaz stood beside Dean and starred out at the desert town ahead of them. It was a different one, she had to admit; a future without zombies or plagues, and only the mild peril of spiders and other exotic insects. She pulled her leather jacket around her and frowned, feeling the comfortable bulge of Grief at her back. "So..." she began, glancing over at Dean, "this'll be where we dive into danger and try to figure out how the hell we came to be here, and why, right?" Her lip twitched in amusement. The views were different, but the mission statement remained constant. Figure out where they were; work out the variables that made up the differences between life and death; avoid them; find a way to get home. "Maybe we can pass on that last one," her Teen Self was sitting on the rope swing, cheek resting against the cold chains. "We've come too far to go back," Jaz felt her head cock to one side in sympathy, wondering when she'd ever looked so young and helpless. "Haven't we?"" She could feel the tug of her insides as the teenager - no more than a child, really - swung half-heartedly. "Yeah, I think maybe we have," she murmured and gave what she hoped was a reassuring smile at the child she used to be. Her inner voices had all been rather sullen since her dream of Vayl. Despite the heat of the desert, Jaz shivered at the memory. Had it really been just her mind screwing her over, or perhaps some crazy portent? It didn't stop her freaking out, just a little bit, when the clocks chimed and someone new arrived.

"Let's get on with this, huh?" she shoved away the dark cloud that was closing in on her, and packed it away in a nice, tight box in her head - marked in stark, red lettering 'DO NOT ENTER - I MEAN IT!' Vayl was gone, and there was nothing she could do about it. Besides, her life had taken a different direction now. One she kinda liked, in a screwed up and twisted sort of way, particularly the part where she got to be with Dean. Speaking of which... "this does look like Tombstone, but a whole lot less touristy than I remember from stuff at school," she commented as she began walking along the famous Allen Street. "Woah!" she exclaimed, as she saw the sign to the O.K. Corral. "Never thought I'd be seeing this!" This time she couldn't help but grin. It would be hard for any soldier not to, when faced with one of the most famous battle grounds of all time! "So, what're ya thinking?" Jaz managed to drag her eyes away from the scenery, and back to Dean's cute twinkle. "Is all this tweaking your hinky-O-metre as much as it is mine? Cause this is all the way around weird, I don't mind saying it! And that's from a girl who talks to herself and lives in a time travelling hotel!"

Dean stood there next to Jaz and looked around at their new surroundings. Great, it was some abandoned town. Not just any town, of course, it was Tombstone. Why did they have to be here for? Why couldn’t the hotel pick somewhere awesome to be? Well, at least it wasn’t crawling with the dead like the last dead town they dealt with when they were back on the psycho train. “I guess so,” he replied with a glance over at Jaz.

“Let’s.” He started to walk down the street, a bit on guard just in case something decided to pop out at them. “Yeah, there is something definitely different about it.” What it was, he really couldn’t put his finger on it. But something was definitely off. “What?” He glanced around before he saw what she was excited about. “Now you can mark it off of your bucket list,” he joked. “There is something wrong with this picture. It doesn’t feel right. But no place ever feels right because there is always something more to it than meets the eye.”

Despite the air of being all business, it was impossible for the two not to throw out the teases and one-liners. "I've got a helluva long bucket list, sweetheart, and several things on there include you," Jaz answered, letting her eyes wander up his body, from foot to the tip of his little hair spike. She pretend to swoon, fanning herself with her hand as she walked.

"Different? Good word," Dean had travelled to hell and back, and lived to tell the tale - as had she - and that kinda adventure tended to leave behind a bit of extra awareness. "You want me to go Astral, see if I can see what's out there, before it kicks our ass in a most undignified fashion?" Jaz asked, shooting Dean a grin that told him she believed nothing of the sort was likely. Still, there was a definite presence here. Not strictly protocol, but Jaz closed the gap on Dean and slid her arm around his waist. "It's at times like this I'm glad I've got me a big, strong guy who loves me...to hide behind!" Her eyes glittered wickedly as she scanned the street ahead. "There. If we're gonna find out about the town, and the people who lived in it," the dying was implied simply in the building she was pointing at, "then that's the place to start looking. The Undertaker's bound to keep good records, right? Probably better than the pastor."

“Do I even want to know what is on that list?” he asked as he watched Jaz’s eyes wander. When she swooned, he just rolled his eyes and laughed a little.

“Did you want me to use a different word?” Dean asked, joking of course. There was something up with this place and there was no other way to say it. “Yeah, sure. Better we see it before it sees us.” He’d rather have the upper hand, not whatever was out there, lurking and watching. “I am not your shield,” he said as she sidestepped so the gap between them was back. He smirked and kept on walking down the street with her. He looked in the direction that Jaz had been pointing in and she did have a point. There should be something in there and if not there were plenty of other buildings they could look through. “Let’s check it out and see what they have.”

With a mischievous smirk, Jaz leant closer and began to whisper a small, but detailed list of possibilities for the couple to explore. "Maybe when we get back to our room we can start ticking things off the list," she chuckled softly, kissing Dean's cheek as she moved back into battle formation.

"So long as you're using your words, I'm a happy bunny," she replied, a grin on her lips, "but given the stuff we usually handle, 'different' feels a tad more disturbing than it should." Jaz gave a quick nod, making sure to close the space between the couple once more. This time for more practical reasons. When she left her body, it was just so much meat, and it was all Dean's to take care of, which he'd done before. For a moment it looked as though she'd zoned out, her eyes misted and cloudy, and then she was gone.

As Jaz rose from her body, the bright chord of her life-line glowed reassuringly, and the connection between her and Dean seemed to have gained a life of it's own since she'd last seen it. She noticed this in the fraction of a second it took before casting her gaze - not exactly her eyes, as they were back down there somewhere with Dean - over the town. Everywhere she looked she saw movement. The town thronged with life, some authentically dressed in buffalo hides and hobnail boots, and others in replica garments, with t-shirts underneath. Jaz had never seen so many auras - outside of hell, at least - and it took her a while to register what was happening here.

Out of the corner of her eye a strange sight greeted her. Four men, all in long coats and armed to the teeth, strolled along Allen Street. Something about the way they moved caught her attention, and their aura's glowed stronger than many of the other spirits. Jaz went in for a close up. "Holy crap, it's Wyatt Earp!" she exclaimed aloud, expecting one of the men to look her way. Nothing. She gave a slight shrug and waved a hand in front of his face, which he also ignored. "Huh!" Puzzled, she followed her way along her life line back to her body, and Dean.

It took a few seconds for her to get reoriented, but Dean's grip on her arm steadied her, as she looked up into his eyes. "This whole place is just teaming with ghosts," she summed up, swallowing deeply. "Seriously, I mean, the whole place! Past, present, probably a few future people too, given we're kinda from the past ourselves, and feel free to spank me any time you need the babbling to stop, cause I'm not entirely sure I can do it myself," Jaz's unease should give Dean more of a clue to what she'd seen than her description, given that she was so rarely shaken. "Here's the weird part," like the rest wasn't weird already. "I think the Earp brothers are still patrolling the town. Pretty sure I saw them, though I couldn't get them to communicate with me. What the fuck kinda place have we got to here?" and why the hell had it shaken her up quite so much? "Undertakers? Right. Maybe we'll find out how these people died," and why so many of them died. Something was totally off here, and Jaz had decided she really didn't like it.

“Maybe,” he said with a smirk of his own.

“It can’t be that bad, can it?” They’ve both been to hell and back and dealt with the crazy train. This town can’t be any worse than the things they had dealt with already. The minute Jaz closed her eyes; he grabbed a hold of her. He didn’t think Jaz would be too happy if he just let her body fall to the ground while she was exploring the astral plane. He glanced around and waited. There really wasn’t much for him to do until Jaz returned back into her body.

It seemed like hours had passed before Jaz started to twitch back to life. He made sure to keep a good grip on her so she wouldn’t fall over. “Well?” he asked just as she started to babble about what she had seen. “Awesome. So we’re surrounded by ghosts and we’re carrying the wrong weapons to defend ourselves if any of them come after us.” There was more to it? He looked at her and waited for her to tell him what the weird part was. “Really? The Earp brothers are still here? That’s actually kind of interesting.” He had seen enough of the movies about them and the town, so yeah, it was kinda cool knowing that they were lurking around…as long as they didn’t decide to shoot at him and Jaz. “Yeah, let’s go.” He started walking towards the building. “So, what were the ghosts doing? Just living life like they never died.”

"Gonna hold you to that," Jaz replied with a raised eyebrow and a shit-eating grin, "everyone knows that 'maybe' is just a yes in disguise."

Sounded like Dean was pretty much up to speed, "not entirely sure we're gonna need the whole arsenal thing," or at least she hoped not. "I'd hate to think what might happen if we started a shoot out in this place. Not sure these dudes are gonna be firing dead-ghost rounds," Jaz said pointedly, cause there had been a lotta armed dudes out on the astral. She nodded in answer to his question, "I may be extrapolating the facts a little, but four law-men, with such strong auras - Wyatt in particular - and I'm gonna put money on them being Earps." She straightened her clothes as she followed alongside Dean, "well yeah. It was pretty weird, cause of the whole 'lots of people from different times' thing. There were down and dirty dudes drinking and seeing to their horses, and pretty-boy copies with their Starbucks cups and cell phones," it was a lot to take in all at once, and Jaz should probably checked out a lot more, but it was all kinda cool and she wanted to share it with Dean.

They headed into the Undertaker's shop, with the pine boxes leaning against the shop-front, presumably advertising their wares. "Not sure anyone's gonna be tempted to just nip in and ask for a coffin, just cause they saw them!" Jaz said with a slight chuckle. "You either need one, or you don't, and personally I'd prefer the second option!" She frowned as she looked around, "well that's kinda odd!" Just to check her initial impressions she allowed her third eye to open, just a little. Not enough to go fully astral, but enough. "No ghosts here," she frowned Dean's way. "Weird, or did we pass weird a long time ago and need a whole new set of descriptive nouns?"

“Well, I hope they don’t go shooting at us first.” If that happened they were screwed. “You think?” Dean really wasn’t in the mood to be shot at by some ghosts from the Wild West. Hopefully they just get ignored while they explored the town. “I bet that was an awesome site to see.”

He went in right behind Jaz and shook his head. “They did way back when. I’m sure those were just props since this was a tourist attraction.” To be honest, he wasn’t even sure they would find anything useful in this place. “What’s odd?” He looked at Jaz and then glanced around. Nothing seemed to stand out as odd to him, so what was she going on about? “If you were a ghost would you want to hang out in here?” He looked over at her again, eyebrow raised. “I think we passed weird a very long time ago.” He walked over to a desk, sat down in the chair, and pulled open a drawer. There was nothing in it. He pulled open a few more drawers to find the exact same thing. “This thing is empty. Except for some dust and bits of trash.”

"Don't worry sweetheart, if they start giving us the beady eye, I'll jump on in and parley on your butt's behalf," Jaz told him with a chuckle as they walked. She smiled and nodded, "yeah, it kinda was. Wish you coulda seen it too," she met his eyes. She'd really only come full force into her powers before they'd arrived on the train, and Jaz really didn't know what she could, or couldn't, do with them - other than burn great chunks out of trains when she was pissed off. Maybe it was time to get in some practice when they got back, and just maybe she could project as well as she received. It was worth a try, and Dean might even spend some time helping her. If they could crack it, it'd bring their combat readiness up to a whole new level!

"I really hope they're props," Jaz wasn't squeamish, but there was something seriously creepy about those coffins. "Don't think they might have been left over from the original town, do you?" she asked as she began to explore the shop proper. "Honestly, if I were a ghost I'd be following Raoul into the promised land, rather than hanging around in this dust-bowl," she blew sand from the top of the counter, "I mean, seriously, how is it that people don't just have sand in their crevices 24/7 living in these conditions?" Bimbo smirked, "And you were complaining after sex on that resort beach!" her sluttier counterpart was still brushing up on her pole-dancing moves, and Jaz couldn't help but wonder how sand would affect her performance right now! She tore herself away from her inner dialogue and searched her side of the counter, "I think I got something." A glass case had been exposed when she'd brushed aside the dust and sand, and she found she was looking down at a hollow cut out of the original counter-top. "Go, go gadget lock-picks!" she muttered, as she slid her shark-tooth necklace from around her neck, and pressed the tooth into the lock. As Bergman had intended, the weird polymer he'd invented shaped itself into the lock, and turned as smoothly as if it'd been made yesterday. "Well looky here," Jaz brought out the book, opened at the date of the O.K. Coral gunfight. "Not exactly living history," she looked up at Dean and gulped, having taken in the columns of names, heights, widths, ages and methods of death.
