Hippies somehow seemed worse to Tony than slowly going insane. He could at least have handled being insane since that gave him an excuse to avoid going outside or touching anyone. All the rumors about the '60s? Totally true from what Tony could tell and he'd only been outside once since the hotel had decided to firmly deposit itself on the corner of Height and Ashbury. Oddly enough, the building didn't look bad there though Tony had started to wonder if anyone other than the hotel's 'guests' could see it. He'd never been a huge fan of San Francisco, but it was definitely better to be there -even in the '60s- than some foreign world where he was afraid to take Pepper outside. He had managed to meander down to the lobby again while thinking about taking another venture out into the peace, love, and flower power era, but, so far, Tony hadn't done much more than observe the lobby doors. There wasn't a lot that scared Tony when he was in his right mind. He definitely wasn't afraid of being outside in the middle of that era in history. It was only a little stymieing to realize that he could wind up running into someone who had known his father or someone who had influenced the history of his world in some real way and what would that cause? Was this actually the '60s in his own world or was it the '60s in some alternative version of his world where it wouldn't matter at all what he did because it wouldn't have any influence on his particular timeline? Time was a fluid construct in physics. It wasn't a set theorem and there were far, far too many potential possibilities -all equally plausible, none more so than the rest- for Tony to take anything he did for granted. He couldn't afford that kind of lackadaisical attitude anymore. He had something to lose now. He had a life that he loved---a woman that he loved. For the first time in his life, Tony Stark had something worth living for and something he couldn't live without and the last thing he wanted to do was fuck it up because he'd gone back to his old ways. "I'm trying to convince myself that I won't cause some horrible paradox by going outside again," he remarked casually as he heard someone striding across the tile of the lobby. Glancing over at the woman, Tony gave her a grin, "You thinking about heading out too or you just came down to stare at the doors like me?" |
