With the static of the cell phone's now off, there'd be no telling when, or if, a monster would appear from the gray haze and attack. Had they known that the static would alert them of the presence, the phones would still be off. It didn't seem like any monster would be a threat for these two. If anything, the noise was more a nuisance than a warning.
Alex watched that tongue flicker and his curiosity rose. Not human. Not infected. Not even a virus. What was he? The foreigner had sensed the pathogen within Alex, calling out his human guise right away, but when it came to identifying the stranger, Alex couldn't place it.
"Something else," Alex responded, staring at the man in the eyes, trying to get a better sense at what he was dealing with.
Maybe he hadn't identified Alex's true self right away, but the guy was close about the sickness part. He was a virus associated with infecting thousands of people and mutating them into horrible zombie-like creatures.
