Annie had put it off for as long as she could stand. Something was seriously, seriously wrong with Gilman. He looked sickly the last time she saw him. He'd been thinner than usual, a little rougher around the edges and though she couldn't say for sure, she thought she'd been able to pick up on some body odor. He obviously hadn't been showering, and if the way he inhaled his meal was any indication, he wasn't eating, either. Annie wasn't his mother, nor was she his girlfriend, but she did care about him, and she was worried.
So worried, in fact, that she decided to call him right after she got off work.
As she slid into the front seat of her car, she listened to each and every ring, waiting to hear his slightly annoyed voice when he answered the phone. But he never did, and after she called him once again (and sent a text for good measure), she decided that she couldn't stand it any longer. Hunter was working, so there was no way she could ask her to check in on him, and Annie wasn't going to get any peace of mind until she saw that he was alright. So, after weighing out the pros and cons of going to see her ex, she put the car in drive and made the short trip to the trailer park.
Annie didn't waste any time in shutting off the engine and walking up to his trailer door, but she did hesitate, if even for a moment, before she gave four swift knocks to his door. She could hear something move inside, so she stood back and waited to see if he would actually come to the door.
