Who: Teagan and Wren
When: December 16th, morning
Where: The Silver Screen video store.
What: Opening shift.
Warning: This is currently boring.
There were a lot of things that weren't lovable about working at The Silver Screen. The walk from her father's house to the video store in the wet snow especially. Teagan still hadn't managed to get Avery Weston's contact information, and she hadn't bothered to follow up on her car for fear of running into the psycho Mike McBrayer again. The only people she'd told about the whole towing incident had been Charlie and Tatum, though she certainly had a lot more cemented feelings about McBrayer, as well as anyone suicidal enough to hang out with the guy. In that, at least, she'd finally found something to agree with her father about. Too bad she wasn't willing to actually have a heart-to-heart with the old man. She'd been avoiding him about as adamantly as she'd been avoiding McBrayer, which was quite a feat, considering she was living under the same roof as Michael Donnelly.
Though that wasn't a permanent deal, she hoped, and the job at The Silver Screen was supposed to be helping her with that. Part-time minimum wage supplemented by babysitting wasn't exactly the kind of money that would get her a place at Regency Meadows anytime soon, but Teagan had her own plans, and was fairly adept at squirreling away funds, even with a meager income. All she had to do was play things frugal, get enough saved up to skip town for California, and get her fucking car running again.
Easy as pie.
Granted, the plan hadn't exactly come to fruition in the five years or so that she'd had it, but one day. Eventually. Probably.
She'd never been able to make a successful pie, either, come to think of it.
At least Sundays were princess shift days. The store opened at 9 AM, which meant she had to arrive at 8 to get the tills ready and make sure everything was set up from the night prior. She unlocked the glass doors, relocked them behind her, and darted into the manager's office to pluck in the 6-digit alarm code. Then she double-checked the tills and did a quick walk around the wall to make sure nothing was out of order before flicking on all the lights. The early hours were generally slow as hell, so she was the only one needed on shift. At 2, she'd be relieved by the two afternoon staff members. During the week, the store manager often took the days and put Teagan on afternoons or closing shifts, but on Sundays nobody liked to open. People were too busy sleeping in or going to church to rent movies anyway, so it didn't really matter who was manning The Silver Screen during those hours.
At 8:50AM, Teagan queued up a movie on the dvd player behind the front counter. The boss had been on her about playing anything rated higher than G during business hours, but exceptions were made for certain classics. Given the holidays, A Christmas Story was allowed in the rotation, as was Elf. Following that logic, Teagan had no qualms about playing Gremlins, on the grounds that it was also a PG Christmas classic, even if it wasn't technically on the list. Within moments, the entire store was filled with the sounds of the opening credits. Ten minutes later, she unlocked the front door to allow customers, and grabbed herself a package of Red Vines for breakfast.
