It was hard to look wounded while he was smiling at her, "I thought you'd appreciate it, since you're obviously trying your hardest not to get busted. Try a little harder, you know? If you get any sloppier it'll probably be front page news."
He shifted his weight forward, lowering his voice to a nasty whisper.
"What I'm getting at," he said, "Is that you aren't half as smart as you think you are. Nobody else is going to tell you since you're so fucking precious, so I thought you'd appreciate a little honesty. I can understand if it's a little jarring for you.
