In the southwest part of Oregon, there is stretch of forest and wetlands known by residents as Crows County. For the most part, it has gone largely unnoticed. Ask anyone who isn’t from there, and they couldn’t tell you where exactly it was located, if they’d ever heard of it at all. Nobody really important has ever hailed from Crows County, and nobody important ever goes there. The county is made up mostly of state forest reserve, and much of that is restricted from the public. However, there is a very small town nestled deep in the bosom of Crows County, where several hundred people have decided to make a home for themselves. Crows Landing, Oregon is very easy to miss. Take the Louise exit off of the coastal highway, and follow it until it eventually turns into a housing district, which will take you to Main, where most of the town is located. If you go North enough for a couple of hours, you’ll hit Myrtle Point and Coos Bay. East will take you to Medford, though that’s a good three-hour drive. It’s nearly a five-hour drive to Portland, which is doable in a day but takes a bit of planning. A day’s walk in any direction mostly yields Oregon growth, with only a few exceptions. |
