At this point in his life Gabe was running a lot of portals. The money he had afforded him the luxury. He had his two houses on either coast, countless small cheap apartments in between, and then houses for each of his family members. Those were only the guaranteed portals. He had endless additional portals that were really too exposed to use, places he’d teleported out of late at night because he could at the time. So having a portal light up wasn’t unusual for him. Family portals were often lit as a sign that company wasn’t welcome at the moment. Portals out in the open that weren’t safe were lit the majority of the time as well.
It wasn’t until about halfway through a meeting that he worked out exactly which portal had a light in it. Then Gabe found himself very distracted. Rather than listening to details about deadlines his mind was working over the meaning behind that light. He was thinking about the typewriter he had in the room. Luckily he hadn’t left any typed pages in the little room he was renting at the brothel so if the light was on because some fan was curious then they would be disappointed. Though the might begin to wonder where he had gone.
After a few hours though he was fairly certain it wasn’t simply a fan. Would someone who had broken into the room to snoop forget to turn the light off? No that didn’t seem very likely and he began to consider the possibility that this was a problem with the establishment itself. He had never explicitly said what type of vampire he was but Gabe had thought that his list of demands had made it clear. He had been insistent about the willingness of his donor and about a room, he’d even gone so far to make it clear that they could give him the smallest room, something that wouldn’t be an inconvenience, something he could keep for a long time without. Where they now using the room for double duty, knowing he wouldn’t be back so soon for another feeding?
He wasn’t sure exactly what was going on, even if it was just a fan one of the owners had given very specific promises. He had been guaranteed the utmost privacy and security and that was certainly not what he was being given even though he was spending a good deal of money for it. The distraction he had during meetings got a ball of annoyance rolling. People were annoyed when they struggled to pull his attention to important tasks and that only added to his own personal growing annoyance. The whole day snowballed into a headache, but there was very little he could cancel until early evening anyway so there was nothing to be done but grind his teeth and push through. And the moment that he was free and clear for the night he teleported to the nearest portal he had to the brothel. The trunk of the Barracuda he had thankfully never gotten retrieved. He needed to get it moved if these people couldn’t be trusted though. He gave the car the briefest look over, checking only that it was intact before he headed to the building.
Gabe pushed his way through all the front of house staff. No he wasn’t going to let Eli use his calming manner to bypass his mood. Instead he pushed through to the back of house looking for the offices. Really he was looking for the cold mannered woman who had provided him with all those assurances. When he finally came to the room that was apparently the office Gabe was quite shocked to see the older man. This was certainly the office and he had been informed about the day manager. Not only did the man look decidedly human he also seemed to be pleasant and congenial looking, even if there was an underlying tension in him. Before he could get too good of a read off the man Gabe took a large step back. So that he was nearly standing against the door. No he wasn’t going to let anyone shut his mood down through their own strong emotions.
“I thought this was a professional establishment capable of handling privacy and security?” The growing annoyance had snowballed throughout the day finally shook loose and affect his manner and tone. “I was assured it was but that is not the service I have been provided. I demand you explain why my room has been altered.”
