Profit was down, which was troublesome. Autumn generally saw a decrease in revenue, as people spent more time with their families and had less money to invest in hedonistic entertainment… but usually the downturn happened in mid-November, not this early. Belli didn’t care for that. His concern was for his primary investments, of course, but there were other issues at stake than just his bottom line. The Red Door was just one of several businesses he couldn’t afford to lose, but it was a pivotal one. Too much had gone into its establishment, and it was too essential to certain parties. A lot of very powerful entities needed the Red Door to remain open, and Sam Belli wanted those entities in his pocket. |
