The Red Door wasn't the most popular brothel in the state. Most people ignored it in favor of the more flamboyant Madame Kitty’s, or the Moonlite BunnyRanch, both of which had quite a bit more advertising. In Western Nevada, many of the active cat houses were in the process of being shut down or swallowed by one of several larger businesses competing for a monopoly on sex in those counties. Dennis Hof was eyeing businesses left and right, looking to expand. But regardless of the competition that sprang up around it, The Red Door was stalwart. There was no enticing its particular clientele away from it, and apparently no threatening or cajoling its owners into selling. |
