Much to her surprise, she felt her cheeks get dark and hot at James' comment, more indignant than embarrassed. She opened her mouth to respond hotly that she would never be sick of Remus--and likely to shoot him a look, too--when Lily came to her rescue with a light punch. Really this meant more to her than anything else that could have happened in the compartment. Merlin, she had never expected the ride to be like this.. she had expected awkwardness, being ignored by Remus, probably brushed off by Lily. She knew she deserved that, and was suddenly overcome with a mixed wave of shame and gratitude.
The look from Frankie was a surprise, one she caught just before she opened her mouth to speak again. Hadn't Denny kissed her in the hallway? Was it some big secret that Cassidy wasn't supposed to divulge? She was just thinking that perhaps James had some insight into the boy that they didn't; after all, James did share the locker room with him after Quidditch..
Still, she clamped her mouth shut again at the look on the perpetually angry girl's face, instead turning her eyes back to James as she frantically searched for some way to explain why she'd asked about Denny. Lily, once again, came to her rescue. "Yes," she answered, obvious relief in her voice at having an answer provided for her. "Plowed right into me. I haven't talked to him much, so I thought you might know him." She said the last part while looking pointedly at Frankie. Then, back to James, she said crisply, "Remus trumps any other boy, any other day." And, with that, she laced her fingers through his, her pride once again taking charge.
