Oh bollocks, she was just absolutely ridiculous. It was probably supposed to be intimidating, scare him into stuttering his words and giving her the answers she wanted to hear. But Denny wasn't the type to be scared into anything: he could defend himself masterfully, whether the attacks were verbal or physical.
And so, defying her defense mechanism and her insecurities, he did exactly what he felt the urge to do, mainly because he wanted to know how she would react. The thought that Teddy was present didn't even occur to him at the moment.
He reached down and kissed her. It was long enough for her to realize what was happening, but not long enough for her to react to it: the perfect length for a surprise first kiss. He wasn't dazed as he pulled back; if anything he was sharper than ever, his brown eyes full of hazel crystals that sparkled even in the dim train lights. He gave her a smile, genuine and just a little sheepish.
