RP: Remus/Regulus
Who: Remus/Regulus
When: evening, 2nd of June
Where: The new living room
What: Regulus decides that it's time to discuss the house

Regulus was slowly redecorating the Slytherin dormitory or as he called it 'home'. The common room was now a formal salon, with sofas and armchairs grouped together around the edges of the room. The middle was now empty and ready for people. He just needed an excuse for a party.

The girls side of the dormitory was still untouched, but he had worked on the boys side. The first floor still had the bedroom. He had debated bringing it upstairs, but the past full moon proved that it was easier for Remus to only walk up one set of stairs. The informal dining room had been brought all the way to the seventh floor, while the new living room was on the sixth, giving them options for different rooms.

They were in the newly decorated living room, sitting in a comfortable couch (unlike the ones in the salon). He looked at the message that they had just gotten from Pettigrew. "If whatever it is screws with my house, I will be terribly upset."

"It's too bad," Remus said, reading over Regulus' shoulder as his one hand was occupied toying with Regulus' hair and he couldn't be bothered to use the other to retrieve his own journal from the pocket where he kept it stashed, "we can't trust that it will stay the harmless items it seems to be now. You'll probably want to warn Kreacher. But, I wonder if we could come up with a spell to either prevent the appearances here or at least isolate them..."

Truthfully, Remus John Lupin had never met an academic puzzle he didn't like. His approach to creating new spells might be less spontaneous than some, but he liked to think they were as good or better than most.

Struck by a sudden thought, he shifted so that he could get his own journal out after all and scribble a hasty note to Peter. When he was done, he slipped the book back into his pocket -- all without using the hand still twirling locks of Regulus' hair around his fingers. He laughed softly. "This is why I limit when I read these. I'll end up sidetrack by a question like this and off researching ideas."

"Of course not, because nothing stays the same here and I'm fine with that as long as whatever comes next doesn't destroy the house. Or whoever." That was the recurring thought. He'd never trusted the idea that only good people showed up. It was bound to happen that people they didn't want would arrive.

"I think we need to increase the security spells here," he said after the moment. "Think about it. If people come from our same time frame, the most dangerous would likely be Slytherins and if they arrive and don't know what's going on, they might come here. I want to make sure that they can't come in."

He closed his own journal and turned his head. "I have more important things to discuss with you. Like the house. I want your input in what we should do with it since it seems unlikely that we're leaving any time soon."

"I suppose at least it's not boring that way." Remus's expression twisted into a wry approximation of his usual pseudo-smirk. "I wouldn't think the castle would let too much damage come to itself, though. Maybe just the salon sofas," he teased.

He pressed a kiss to Regulus' temple. "I have thought about it. Why do you think the Fat Lady actually requires a password to get into Gryffindor tower?" There weren't the spells and such Regulus was talking about only because the four of them had really done little to change the tower from how it was and there weren't as many dangers from the potential Gryffindors who might return. And, then there was the more practical reason. "I think increasing the security spells is a good idea. But, just make sure you aren't trapping us, or you if I'm not here, in here with them if they should appear already inside the common room."

Running his fingers through Regulus' hair, he chuckled softly. "You remember I haven't actually moved in, yet?"

"Oh yes, we wouldn't want to be bored. Actually, I'm perfectly all right with boredom when it comes to my house." He snorted. "That doesn't make me feel better. It's not the stone walls that I'm worried about. It's the furniture. It's taken me time to find the perfect combinations among all the things that happen to be in this castle."

Sticking the journal between the pillow and the backrest, he shifted slightly so he could look at Remus better. "Because the Fat Lady has always required a password and the denizens of the castle are anything if not predictable in their routines?" he said with a grin. "My spells would preclude people from getting in and not getting out. Since I'm not a Gryffindor, should anyone be trapped in here and wants to escape, he's perfectly happy to leave without any destruction."

He rolled his eyes. "You're practically here most of the time. If you and Sirius need to feel like you still live in the tower, then far from me from vanishing your delusion. On the other hand, you do spend plenty of time here and I'd like your opinion on what we should do."

"With the number of Gryffindors here, you really don't want them to get bored." Remus laughed softly, although, given that four of those Gryffindors were himself and his friends and Remus knew what could happen when James and Sirius in particular got bored? Not bored was a good thing. Keeping their minds occupied was the best thing for all of them. He was also fairly certain Regulus' furnishings were far more likely to be damaged by random people appearing than random objects, which made the rest of the conversation far more pertinent.

He tilted his head forward and to the side, one eyebrow raised. "And, yet, how many others have actually set up passwords for the other places most often protected by password?" he pointed out with a soft 'smirk'. "The only others I can think of that would consider it are you and Snape. A few more who'd have put spells on their rooms that don't have guardian portraits. But, as long as you're not inadvertently trapping yourself in here with whoever arrives, should they appear here, adding more spells to keep people out seems well advised to me."

Chuckling, he shrugged and nudged at Regulus' knee with his own. "It just so happens here is where my favourite person in the castle can usually be found," Remus teased. It was entirely possible he would end up moving into the Slytherin dorms with Regulus. If things continued to progress as they seemed, it was pretty likely. But, Remus was enjoying the dating and the lead up, things neither of them had really had a chance to experience before, and was in no rush. It wasn't like there was much to move, in any case. He had a couple changes of clothes stored in his room and everything else he kept on his person out of long habit. He also couldn't help but smile warmly at the thought Regulus wanted share his home with Remus, so there was little argument to really be made. "Did you have something specific you wanted an opinion on?"

"As long as they stay out of the dungeon, they can get bored all they like. I'm certainly not letting them stay here without me present and I really don't care about what they do with the rest of the castle. They are someone else's headache, and I think I might enjoy watching that show down," he said with a smirk. The idea of Potter versus Potter amused him to no end.

"The Ravenclaw tower is off limits. There are plenty of spells down here and Hufflepuffs are Hufflepuffs. You can't expect them to mistrust anyone. So basically, it's all normal," he said, with a laugh. "I don't know about the people with their own rooms, but I think you underestimate them if you think that they haven't put spells up since they don't have portraits. I mean I don't know for sure, but the Malfoys, Greyback, the Potters? I feel that there might be more security that you think."

Regulus smiled, before leaning in for a kiss. "How fortuitous, since you're my favourite person." Any declaration of affection had to wait at the prospect of discussing a house, because he'd been dying to create a real home. "We should decide what rooms we want. Since Potter is handing over our books and I can't imagine that Sirius will care if I take them or not, I was thinking a full library, maybe on the personal side of the house, that would leave us with three rooms. I'm not sure what to do with them. On the public side, I was thinking a formal dining room, a formal sitting room, a guest room or two maybe. What else do we want there? Maybe a potion room."

Remus snorted softly. "Why do I completely believe you would?" he teased. Although, considering how certain people had never felt any compunction to limit their mischief-making in the past, he wouldn't hold his breath hoping no one ever came down to the dungeons to cause a little of what they believed to be harmless mayhem.

"Ravenclaw tower shouldn't count, since it's not inhabited, but slated for the students and, therefore, truly normal," he pointed out. "And I'm not sure if it's actually password protected or just simply known to be unavailable, since there isn't anyone in there now. I did say I could think of a few who would have spells up. And maybe it's changed in the last couple of months. But, for a long time it didn't seem like most people here were very concerned about security inside the castle, just keeping things out."

And, then, just like that, Remus was reminded how different the worlds were that they came from, despite both being in the magical one. "I will never say no to books, so if you expected objections to a library I'm afraid I'll have to be a terrible disappointment. And a potions room is going to be all on you. I'd be useless with one, given I can't brew to save my life." He bit his lip in thought for a moment, having no clue what to do with the rest. There were more rooms in Regulus' list, if combined with what was already done, than had been in the entirety of Remus' house when he'd still had one. "Honestly, I'm not sure what else would be needed," he admitted finally. "Our house was two bedrooms, a bath, kitchen with an breakfast nook where we usually ate, and a living/drawing/sitting everything else room." And after that he'd been on the streets or hostels, makeshift tents. It was difficult to imagine two people needing all this space.

"Because you know me?" he answered, knowing that he did nothing to hide how he felt about people doing stupid things. If those people were usually Gryffindors, it wasn't his fault. "And really, if they can get inside this house, then it's my own bloody fault for not casting enough spells to stop them." And he would do his best to stop them and anyone else that could come.

"Right, but there are four dormitories. When you consider two have passwords and one isn't used, you're still left with the Hufflepuffs. We should check with Savannah to see if they have a password, just to satisfy our curiosity." In the end, it wasn't that important and they basically agreed on the important things, like the need for security. "I think it's the people who are here that make the difference. Lots of Potters, for example and he's paranoid. I'm assuming his kids are too, although I might be wrong. Theo would probably have some strange spell that would talk you to death," he said, chuckling.

He liked the idea of a library just for them. "I'll have to work on the lighting. That's the most important aspect for the library. And couches, but I think we have enough couches to seat everyone here a few times over." He scrunched his nose. "Maybe we can put the potion room on the top level of the public side, completely isolated from everything else. No worries about fumes getting anywhere. Or we could put it upstairs, move the dining room here and this room a floor down. It would leave us with two empty rooms here, but we can leave those for anything that comes up later and we concentrate our lives on this side of the house. We could even have additional protection spells on this side that we wouldn't have on the public side." He frowned. "How did you not kill each other in such a small house? We have six floors with just the four of us. Three once Sirius left."

"Perhaps just a little," Remus agreed with a warm smile as he tapped a finger playfully on the tip of Regulus' nose. "And I'm less worried about the poor idiots who would end up hexed trying to break in here and more worried about anyone who might just suddenly appear here because the castle wants them back."

Chuckling, Remus shook his head. "We'll just have to ask her, then." Personally, he couldn't see Savannah or her father as the type to think about password protecting the common room if it wasn't already. Security didn't seem to come naturally to either. But, he could always be pleasantly surprised. "Harry is definitely paranoid." Should it be weird that Remus rarely misunderstood which 'Potter' Regulus was referring to at a given time? But, really, it wasn't like one could describe Prongs as 'paranoid'. "Like you, I would assume he taught his kids to be mindful of such things, for all they don't seem to be as truly paranoid. Although, now I'm wondering if it would be possible to out-patience a spell that would talk you to death."

The idea of a private library was...well, honestly, it was his childhood dream come true, even if it was a dream he'd given up a belief in well before even sitting his OWLs. "Perhaps a writing table or two, as well. Someplace to spread out a bit while researching, if necessary." Reaching for Regulus' hand, he laced their fingers together. "I cast some spells to keep the scents from travelling to the rest of the rooms, no matter where you put the potions room, if you like. They're meant to keep other werewolves away, something I learned from others while I was in France. But, that just means they'd do well enough for normal olfactory senses," he explained with a shrug. "But, I like the idea of having extra protections just on this side, an added layer where you need it most."

Regulus' expression was adorable and he had to lean over to kiss him softly. "We were pretty far out of town and isolated. Lots of land. I could take my books outside, climb a tree to read. Mam's domain was the kitchen and the garden. Tad had a desk in the family room. We made do." And they all got along better than the Black family from what Remus knew of it.

"Again, my spells are made to stop people from coming in and not from leaving. If they arrive here, then they can leave. Kreacher can take them out without any damage to them if I'm not around." People usually forth how stealthy the house-elves could go and Kreacher could Apparate them while they couldn't.

He nodded. "Although, she's still a Hufflepuff, so it's not a surprise," he said, barely trying not to giggle like a school child. There were some stereotypes that survived through the generations. "He is and I don't blame him one bit. I would do the same if I were in his place. Too bad that his children aren't as paranoid, maybe not the older one, although his name- Really, why do that to his own son?" He snorted. "Now I have the mental image of someone trying that spell on Binns while he keeps teaching."

Regulus nodded. "That seems acceptable, although maybe we can do a library and an office, on two different floors. The rooms are only so big. If we put two desks, the bookcases and the couches, it'll be truly cramped. It'll be easier to work from home after the full moon." He grinned, because slowly the house was taking shape. "It'll be great, won't it?"

Remus' description of the house didn't get better as he spoke. "I liked London. I might not interact with Muggles, but I was still there, I could see what was happening. I could walk to Diagon Alley and King's Cross. I certainly didn't have to climb trees, but I could go to Hyde Park. I miss the energy of London."

"So, we're good, then," Remus agreed with a smile. He would always worry about the people he cared about. It was just the way he was built. His parents' influence, in some ways. After all, they'd set the example by giving up everything for him, hadn't they? But, as long as Regulus took appropriate precautions... And, Remus did spend a lot of time there. So, it wasn't just Regulus and Kreacher.

He snorted softly. "Harry's future self must have been taking lessons from my parents for names to curse your children with," he said with a laugh. "I suppose Jamie would be the most likely of the three to share their father's paranoia to some degree, though. He has his grandfather's swagger, but he watches a room like his father." Picturing the scene Regulus described, his laughter grew even warmer and more rolling. "I think that would be more dangerous for anyone else in the area listening to it. Binns is bad enough."

Leaning back against the arm of the sofa, Remus stretched out, keeping one foot on the floor and manoeuvring the other so that he didn't kick Regulus. Then, he reached for his boyfriend, intent on puling the younger man to lean against him so Remus could have him in his arms as they talked. "A separate office sounds good. Does this mean you'll let me work after the Full, if I stay here?" he teased, remembering the foot Regulus had put down about the matter the previous month.

"I barely remember London. I know we lived there at the time of the attack. But, most of my childhood memories are of the farmhouse. I didn't really see a lot of the city until later, during the war." He chuckled softly. "I didn't have to climb trees. But, they were there. So, why not? It was a good skill to learn for after. People very rarely look up."

"We're very fine, like aged whiskey," he teased, because it was easier to joke than keep going on the theme of safety. They were safe. Nothing would hurt them here. He'd try to minimize the damage to people who ended up here, but he also was not going to cry if they got hurt instead of him or Remus. On the other hand, he'd do nothing to stop them from leaving.

He snorted. "Forget about curses. James Sirius is just a terrible name for two terrible people, and I don't care that one is my brother and both are your friends. They are not people to emulate." He nodded. "He does, doesn't he? He's also less loud. I expected the worst when I met him, but I can't say that I saw Potter in him." He loved watching Remus laughing like that, so unencumbered from worries. "Binns might cause death by boredom all by himself."

Shifting, he sat against Remus, his back resting against Remus' chest. Regulus lifted his head and kissed Remus' jaw. "You're adorable when you try to play dumb, and of course that's not happening. You may review things in bed in the afternoon if they are urgent. They said we can switch days. I'm switching days, so you can switch days. I'm not seeing the reason why you need to work through the pain."

He sighed. "It's busy, and full of Muggles, but it's also filled with lights and new things that you see in every window." He snorted. "You can Apparate on top of a tree. I'm not sure why you'd do that, but you could."

Grinning, Remus leant down to nibble at the side of Regulus' neck. "No," he declared with a quiet hum. "I think you taste better than aged whiskey," he teased, sneaking in a last nip before raising his head to continue the conversation.

His arms wrapped around Regulus' waist and he pressed a kiss to dark hair that was the trademark of the Black family. "They aren't without their faults," he agreed mildly. Remus was still holding out hope that his friends and Regulus wouldn't always hate each other, especially if this relationship really did turn out to be as long term as the way he and Regulus seemed to talk about it. "Still, he's not as loud, is he?" Remus might love them, but there was no denying James and Sirius both had very loud personalities. "Lilu seems to have gotten a bit more of that, though not to the same extent as her grandfather. Nor does Jamie seem to take after the Potter looks. His poor brother got that trademark hair, it seems."

He could get used to this, he thought, sitting wrapped up in each other, just talking about...everything. "Because I can?" he replied, biting his lip to keep from smirking because he knew that answer wasn't going to go over any better than a lead feather. Having a high tolerance for pain and having to learned how to force himself to do things after the transformation in order to survive didn't seem to be a good enough reason in the face of Regulus' logic.

"We should go soon. Take a night and explore the city, see what lights and new things we can discover." He chuckled again. "Apparating makes noise. It's also less dangerous to climb them, than risk splinching after a transformation."

"Of course, because I'm wonderful and perfect and nothing is better than me. I thought you knew that," he said, laughing.

Once upon a time, the idea of being so exposed and powerful with a Gryffindor would have been ludicrous, but now, it didn't even occur to him until Remus' arms were around him. "Jamie is not objectionable. In fact, I can seem to deal with the new generation better than I can deal with the older one," he said, but his voice had a far away sound, because his mind was still on the way they were sitting. "I trust you." He knew how ridiculous it sounded considering that they slept together, but that was different, that was sex, and even taking Remus into consideration while building a house seemed minor compared to this. "I don't worry about you being a threat, which is- Part of me is always careful, even with friends, but with you, I stopped being careful."

He smiled, not because of the smart arse remark, but because of his newfound realization. "Sure you can, and you can go without the potion, you can go without a real job, you can do a lot of things, but just because you have been able to survive, it doesn't mean that you have to do it again."

Regulus nodded. "We should. I miss the time when I could walk around in a robe and no one would care, but I suppose that I can make a sacrifice to be in London."

"I also trust your judgement when it comes to finery," Remus pointed out, the beginning of a soft smirk playing about the corner of his mouth. "So, I just wanted a sample." He dipped his head again to lightly scrape his teeth down the column of Regulus' throat. "And has no one warned you yet that 'fine' is code in Gryffindor-ese for 'fucked up and trying to hide it'?" he added when he raised his head again.

The change in Regulus' tone caught his attention immediately and the Potter family became a secondary concern the minute the reason for the change became apparently. Remus' breath caught briefly in his lungs because those were three words he hadn't expected to hear for some time, yet. The affection between them had seemed to sneak up on them quietly, until it couldn't be quiet any longer. It still surprised Remus that they could have this, the quiet comfort of conversation and blazing sexual heat in equal measure. But, they were two war-scarred young men, with their own paranoia and distrust of...life. Regulus, even more than Remus, had been given few reasons to trust people in his life. So, to hear him say, with such sincerity, that he trusted Remus, was...well, Remus honestly wasn't certain what he'd done to deserve that trust, but he'd work twice as hard not to lose it now that he knew he had it. Those three words -- i trust you -- were as important as three other words neither of them had spoken yet.

Perhaps moreso to Remus who had such a history of being falsely mistrusted by those closest to him, as well as the world for what he was.

"I'm glad you've stopped feeling the need to be careful between us," he said softly and pressed his lips to Regulus temple in a gentle kiss. "It means a lot to me that you feel that way." He brushed his fingers through Regulus' hair. "I know it's not the same, and I don't know when it started, but I've stopped hiding when I'm with you. All the things I've never felt I could share with my friends, it comes easily with you." Smiling, he squeezed his arm around Regulus. "Even letting you take care of me when my pride says otherwise."

His smirk grew wider, but softer. "Well, I still say you look sexy as sin in trousers. But, when we figure all this craziness out and we can leave the castle and the country, we'll go to France, travel the wizarding places where you can wear your robes without worry."

Regulus tilted his head a little more without even thinking. "That's when used in a very different context. It's not my fault that Gryffindors are unable to distinguish between the many meanings a word can have," he answered in a breathy voice. "It is sad that there aren't enough people around to teach you. I can't do it all by myself."

He turned around, because he wanted to see Remus. "I haven't scared you, have I? I know that we seem to be skipping a few steps here. First, we were going so slow that we were basically at a standstill and then after the memories-" He laced his fingers with Remus. "I will never understand the friendship you have with those three, and while I might complain about them as people, I accept that they mean a lot, but I really want to hex all four of you, when they are so careless and you let them. I help you not because you're weak, but because that's what you should do for a person you care about."

He bit his lip, pressing his cheek against Remus. "If we were home, this would still be considered slow. There would be an official engagement, plans for a wedding. There were rules about relationships and marriages. Not that we could have gotten married. Here, we can get married, but none of the rules apply, and I don't know if this is too fast, but I know I like having you here with me. I like falling asleep and waking up with you. I like it, because I care for you and I never thought I could be with someone I love."

He smiled. "Wearing trousers is fine if you enjoy them as much and I do want to see London with you. We'll start there."

Remus loved how easily Regulus responded, the subtle tilt of a head, the change in breath and voice. The genuine nature of Regulus' reactions had restored Remus' belief in sensuality. "I suppose I shall just have to work harder to learn and save you the chore," he murmured against Regulus' skin.

When Regulus turned, Remus cupped his cheek with one hand, thumb brushing lightly over his lower lip. "Not scared," he said softly. "Perhaps surprised. I know how not easy it is for you to give your trust to others. It's a bit amazing to think we only arrived here a little over three and a half months ago and now we're...here, using words like trust and marriage and love as easily as we talk about books or theories. I don't know if it's too fast, either, or too slow. But, I find I don't really care. I like how we are. I'm happy finding our way through together, learning to love together." Leaning forward, he kissed Regulus softly, taking his time to enjoy the kiss and the moment and, most importantly, the man in his arms.

"I know you aren't helping me because you think I'm weak," he said quietly when he finally pulled back. "It's not that kind of pride. It's more...I guess it's more trust than pride, as well. My friends were there during school. But, during the war and after, I was on my own a lot by necessity, or with other werewolves. It was risky to be caught out after the transformation, there was no one who could be trusted. And, now...my friends haven't lived those years, they haven't had to live without the others. Life alone changed me, but they are still the same. It can't be what it was, but sometimes letting them pretend is easier than trying to explain the differences because we don't have the same set of shared experiences any more."

Stealing another kiss, he nodded. "I enjoy them because they look good on you. And that's settled, then. We'll find a day that's good and go exploring together."

Regulus chuckled. "I have complete faith in your ability to learn, but I actually meant that the society that created and used those simple words for multiple meanings. Sometimes I miss those parties that were half parties and half verbal wars. Sure, they could be exhausting at times, but they were also interesting. I think that's why I enjoy talking to Theo. He never says what he means," he said with a laugh.

He nodded. "It surprises me. The speed isn't the surprise, considering that any marriage would have probably been this quick, but the trust and the... love, those are definitely unexpected." Regulus got lost into the kiss, leaning against Remus when they pulled apart. "I like the idea of doing everything together. I want you to be here all the time and I want you to move in with me. If you think it's too soon, we can have a separate bedroom for you, not that you'd use it, but I want you here." He raised his head and stared at Remus. "I want you to move in."

He understood all too well what it was like to do things alone. "Being alone and doing things alone are admirable traits, but also a sign of desperation. I know that, because I was caught up in it as well. There was no other way, I was convinced of that, but now, thinking back, maybe there were options. I could have gotten in touch with Sirius. For all that he can be a right prick, I've always known where his loyalties lay. I knew the Order would have helped destroy Voldemort. Maybe if I hadn't decided to do things alone, we could have destroyed him a lot sooner."

Regulus huffed. "I'm glad that my attire gives you pleasure. I'd say the same, but I actually prefer when you don't have clothes on."

Smiling softly, Remus hugged Regulus tighter for a moment. "It makes sense that you'd miss it. That was your world, after all, both the exhausting and the interesting. Sounds like Theo's company gives you back at least some of that familiarity. You need friends, too. Or at least people to spend time with occasionally who aren't brash hopeful Gryffindors with a tendency to see silver-linings to most things."

Golden brown eyes met stormy grey for a long moment before Remus nodded slowly. Taking Regulus' hand in his, he brought it his lips. "Okay." It didn't really require much thought. He loved his friends, but he was falling for Regulus harder each day, wanted to see his face the last thing before sleep and the first thing when he woke in the morning. "I don't know what too soon is, Regulus. But, I know that being here with you feels...right."

Two lonely, desperate people who'd had the good fortune to find each other. That's what it sounded like. "Desperate is a good description of the last few years. I think we all got desperate near the end. Look at the four of us. We couldn't even trust each other, even though we knew better. I imagine it was even harder for you in your situation." He pressed another kiss to Regulus' temple. "But, we have a chance to learn from our past, now, to do better. Together."

Laughing, he tugged at Regulus' hips in a silent urging to turn around fully so that Remus could pull him into his lap. "Is that what you prefer, hm? Want to do something about it, then?"

"It's not just that. It's the end of an era, because you can never have that. Me, Theo, Lucius, Draco, we can't possibly recreate it by ourselves and what we had was the product of centuries. I'm sure that in five hundred year there will be some new variation of society, but it will never be the organic evolution of what we had." Regulus was coming to terms with that, even if some days it was harder than others.

Regulus grinned. "See? I should have asked you what you want in the house since you are moving in." He pulled Remus closer for another kiss, pushing away any discussion about speed. "We're already doing better," he said as he pulled back.

Instead of straddling Remus, Regulus stood up. "Since I've yet to stash lube in every room, we're going downstairs and then I plan to do a lot about it. I think we've found the downside of living at Hogwarts. WE can't apparate to our bedroom." But Regulus was going to make it up to Remus soon enough.
