"And that's why I had to ambush you before sunrise? Because you're so easy to find these days?" Remus remarked, unimpressed with the evasion. He wasn't going to mention that he was a little hurt not to have woken up with Padfoot's fur tickling his nose. That wasn't something that could continue now that he was seeing Regulus, anyway. Just proof Sirius was avoiding him.
But, since it seemed Remus was, actually, going to have to play the bad guy in this...
"Is this really how you want this to go, Pads?" It was mostly a rhetorical question as he could see the truth of it plain in his friend's eyes.
"Very well." Taking a breath, he plunged on ahead. "I wanted to speak to you before word got out around the castle. I know what everyone thinks they saw at the party the other night, between me and your brother. And, while there was nothing officially happening between us then, that changed yesterday and I thought you should hear the truth of it from me, since you're my best friend and Regulus' brother. But, also...I need to apologize because I was too blind to see before now that you've convinced yourself you have feelings for me and the last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, there's no way for me to say any of this without doing so and I'm sorry for that, for not seeing things sooner."
