Draco thought that Harry's adult children were being extremely unfair. It wasn't like this Harry had done anything, and holding him to the same standard as the man they'd grown up with was more than anyone could live up too. Draco worried about living up to Scorpius' expectations, and his son was nothing but loving and supportive. He couldn't even imagine if Scorpius held him responsible for things he hadn't even done yet. That was one of the main reasons he'd spoken to his father at all, beyond Scorpius wanting him too. Whatever Lucius had done, he hadn't done any of the things that Draco was angry at him about. It wasn't fair, and he had been petty to hold onto that anger.
"Maybe they just want someone to blame," he said softly. "Like I did. Do, still, even. I blamed everything that happened to me on my father, partly because it was his fault, but partly because as long as I blamed him I didn't have to blame myself. I didn't have to accept everything that happened, and my part in it. I didn't have to face any of it, because I could blame it all on him. Whatever happened in your kids lives," and it did sound like they'd had a hard time, according to Scorpius, "maybe it's easier to blame you, future you, than actually come to terms with any of it. And if it actually was all future you's fault, that still doesn't make it your fault. You didn't do any of it, and if they can't accept that you're not who you became then they're the problem. How can you possibly hope to create a relationship based on who you are all now if they can't let go of the you from their past, and your future?"
