"As lucky as any of us got with this situation," he said with a shrug. "I got lucky too. Padma - despite her secrets," because everyone kept secrets in their private life, "she has a pretty normal family life, with a twin she loves. Her work life - now there's a trip. Department of Mystery, all sorts of cool stuff that I'd have loved to get my hands in." Not that he would have gotten such a fancy job. The Ministry was not only about talent, but also position and he had none to offer.
Peter winced at the idea. The full moon would have been a real problem. "Especially if the wrong people were taking that potion and no precautions were being taken. I'm glad we avoided any problems though." He wasn't sure that trust would have been enough, especially if Sirius was involved. "All's well that ends well. And aren't I full of platitudes today? I just... I think it would have been incredibly bad if it was one of us. Either way it would have created even more friction than there is at the moment."
He turned to look at Remus. "Is it not? We're forced to live here, with people having their little cliques, doing things we don't want to do, with people dying and disappearing, not knowing what will happen next. How is it different? Maybe we don't have people hexing us, but the precarious nature of life is still here." Feeling seemed like something that they couldn't afford, especially when he didn't have anyone to talk to. Feeling too much led you to betrayal like in his case or constant fear like in Sirius. "She was special. Bright and kind and so different from us, not because of the visions but because she lived a life of uncertainties. It's strange, but she knew that the visions were never a set future so for her everything was relative, reasons and motivations were important. She actually cared."
