"No, no he's not," Remus agreed with a warm laugh. "I know. For all his concern with being prepared, Harry doesn't seem to put much stock in anything that isn't practical in the moment. But, there's something off about all of this and I think it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission in this case. If you're researching something practical and just happen to stumble upon something else..." He shrugged, the picture of innocence. "No, I don't think they did, either. And I think there was more to the forced aspect than most people want to look into. The reaction of the international community worries me, too. Shutting the borders to prevent the spread of the curse is normal. But, in everything we've managed to collect, there doesn't seem to be any mention of aid, either. Not a single mention of any sort of government or private entity outside the country sending someone to help try to stop it. No exploratory excursions to see if the curse was still active so far as we can tell. If house elves can get in and out of the barrier, why wasn't there something from the outside?" It didn't add up. Remus was used to poking holes in a plan. But, it worried him when he couldn't see the shape of the hole or how big it was.
"Precisely. And I mean it when I say I'll give you what help I can, as well. We need to figure all of this out. We're rattling around blind and seemingly all too willing to just accept it is what it is." Almost all of their research had been halted when Harry took over, or left to be done on off hours with no real support or assistance. At least, if they could get an actual research group going, they might not get caught off-guard when lost knowledge came back to roost. "Mmm, weren't they? Cassandra was Dumbledore's peer. Glenda was our age, but well acquainted with Duke. Cho...I think the castle remembered her ties to Harry and the others and didn't realize she'd left the magical world entirely. But, you're right. We can't force the facts into a hypothesis. I'm just throwing thoughts out there. I might be entirely wrong."
Remus chuckled. "If we find perfect soulmates, they should definitely come first. But, no, I wasn't comparing Regulus and Cassandra. Just making the more general connection of new people coming into our lives and they happened to be the ones we'd been talking about." He heaved a sigh as Peter went on started to feel a sense of deja vu. "I don't know when he'd even have time to fancy himself in love with me when he's so focused on James," he huffed, slightly amused at the idea. "Still, I'm not seeing his brother. If that were to happen, then, yes, I would have to tread lightly. But, it hasn't."
