She waved off the apology with a hand. "That's fine. I'm not upset with you. I'm upset with people who don't seem to understand that it's a curse. Anyway you don't have to worry about that here. You get a room and food. We do have assignments, but mostly it's finding things that helps us survive. We'll be building greenhouses to farm, although I don't know how that works."
Savannah could imagine that it had to feel really strange. "That sounds horrible for you. I'm sorry you have to go through all of that. I admit that I never thought about the mechanics of it all, but it can't be pleasant."
She nodded. "Maybe. Maybe not. It doesn't really matter anymore, does it? You get to be twenty-three for another month and then we celebrate your birthday again. Wait, sleeping here? Did you spend the night out here? In the cold? You must be freezing. Why didn't you say something sooner. Let's get you some hot tea, nice and proper."
She made a face. "All right, you definitely need a shower before anything. I'll find you some clothes and we can incinerate what you have on." She shrugged. "I suppose it's still there, but when you have your own tub, it loses it's uphill." She did not want to be in a tub shared by everyone. "Also you definitely need a shower before a bath. You don't want to sit in dirty water."
