"As long as it's not red or gold," Severus said dryly. He then shrugged. "Mostly. Black doesn't tend to go in or out of fashion so I don't have to go shopping all that often." He wasn't fond of clothes shopping at the best of times.
"Smaller towns may not have the same kind of surveillance so mixed might work there but we're better off staying together at first." He snorted. "There are reasons why the magical world has always kept itself separate. They just didn't want to admit that most of those reasons had merit."
He looked amused for a moment then sobered. "I wanted to be... not necessarily rich but certainly wealthy enough to buy a house and live well. I wanted to get my mother out of Cokeworth and back into the wizarding world where she belonged." His mother had been a pureblood after all. A Prince. He'd never been able to work out what she'd seen in Tobias Snape but he'd admit that apart from a few periods when he was a child and his father had been working and bringing in decent money, he'd never seen the best of the man.
"At this lot?" he said with a snort. "Between the Marauders and all those who were my students, it's hardly an ideal group. Besides, in their eyes, I'm the greasy git, the Death Eater."
