Re: Remus/Sirius
"Life happened," Remus said quietly, fidgeting with the hole starting to wear through the knee of his jeans. "We weren't kids any longer. We were four young men with four different lives, four different sets of priorities. James had Lily and Harry. They had to come first in his life, ahead of us. We would have been the first ones to have a go at him if he did put us ahead of them and you know it. I won't speak for Peter until I hear his full story from him. But, Pads..."
Sighing softly, he looked up through his bangs at one of his best friends. "It's always been you and James, then the four of us. I've known that since first year. You two...you just clicked, two peas in a pod, crawling into each others' back pockets to live right from that first Welcome Feast. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'm not saying this as a reprimand. Just because there are four of us, it doesn't mean we all have to mean the same things to each other. But, it sounds like for Peter, at least, that inequity started to chafe. And in the middle of a war, when we were all pulled in different directions with different missions, having to keep secrets...it's hard to know who you can trust in a situation like that."
With Sirius sitting upside down, it was difficult to get a hand on his shoulder, but Remus tried any way. "We can last through anything, though. From what I hear, in our future, you and I made it up almost as soon as we spoke upon seeing each other again." He grinned. "I never can stay mad at you for long, Sirius Black. Peter wound up saving Harry, which means there had to be something left in him that remembered us. And we're all four here. Right now. We have a second chance to make it last the right way. We just have to try."
