Strange plot bunnies!
My mind can work very oddly at times. Somehow my thoughts managed to wander on to the subject of plastic surgery in the magical world. As they did, this story popped into my mind. I hope y'all enjoy it.
Delusions
Ginny stared at herself in the mirror. At 36 years old, she already greatly resembled her mother. Looking down at her large stomach in disgust, Ginny began to panic. "What if Harry leaves me for someone skinnier and more attractive?" Ginny thought to herself. Ginny began pacing, until an idea stopped her in her tracks. Picking up her wand, Ginny pointed it at the excess fat on her stomach and performed a simple banishing spell. Realizing it hadn't worked, Ginny tried a few more times, growing frustrated with her lack of success. With a desperate cry, Ginny began shouting various spells all while keeping her wand aimed at her stomach. After a few minutes, Ginny felt some warmth trickle down her thighs. Looking down, Ginny barely had time to process the fact that there was a large amount of blood pouring from a gaping wound in her stomach before she passed out.
Ginny opened her eyes groggily, and looked around. She appeared to be in one of the rooms in Saint Mungo's. Turning her head slightly to the left, Ginny saw a healer standing by her bed, taking some notes. As soon as the healer looked down she smiled. "You're awake, Ms. Weasley!"
"It's Mrs. Potter." Ginny automatically corrected before frowning and asking "What happened? And where's my husband?"
The healer stared at Ginny with a very concerned look on her face. Fortunately for her, Ron and Luna walked into the room just at that moment, saving her from having to answer Ginny's questions.
"Blood hell, Ginny, What did you do this time?" Ron asked in a shaky voice. Ron looked scared, and the normally serene looking Luna looked shaken up.
"I was trying to look good for my husband!" Ginny spat, totally mystified by Ron's behavior. "I noticed how chunky I've gotten when Harry, Lily, and I took James and Al to the Hogwart's Express. So naturally, I tried to use a little magic to shed some weight. I mean, how am I supposed to keep Harry if I look so much like mum? I suppose I must have messed up the charms though, seeing as I'm here at Saint Mungo's. It's really no big deal. I'm mostly worried that I won't get home in time to prepare Harry's supper."
Ron and Luna exchanged a glance before Ron turned back to Ginny. "Ginny," Ron began in a kind voice. "you do know that you're not really married to Harry. Harry and Hermione are married. They got together at the end of fifth year, and they've been married for 16 years now."
Ginny let out an insane laugh before smacking her brother lightly on the arm. "Sure, Ron, My husband is married to your wife. I suppose next thing you'll want me to believe is that you're really married to Luna!"
"Ginny, I am married to Luna." Ron said while gazing sadly at his sister. He pulled a chair next to her bed and sat on it. "Ever since you were pulled into the Chamber of Secrets, you've been different, Gin. You've been taking a potion for years, but every once in a while you stop taking it, and end up having delusions. When you stopped in your fifth year, you swore that Harry was obsessed with you, and that the two of you were dating. We managed to sneak some of the potion into your pumpkin juice the morning of Dumbledore's funeral and you were fine. But after that, every time you've stopped taking the potion you swear that you're still with Harry."
Ginny couldn't believe what Ron was telling her. Poor, delusional Ron. Didn't he know that she was meant to be with Harry, just as he was meant to be with Hermione? Did their "One Big Happy Weasley Family" mean nothing to him? Ginny's throat felt dry, so she reached for the glass of water that the healer had so thoughtfully left on her bedside table. Taking a sip, Ginny barely registered the odd taste of the water before feeling a bit dizzy. After a moment, Ginny's head cleared, and she looked at her brother. "How long was it this time?" She asked with a frown on her face.
Ron looked relieved as he smiled at her. "Less than a day. You really had me scared, Gin. I thought I was going to lose you this time."
Ginny sniffled a bit and hugged her brother. "I am so sorry, Ron. I have no idea why I stopped taking the potion. I guess I just felt so normal that I didn't think I needed it. I can't believe how I lost control and hurt myself like that. This will definitely be the reminder I need as to why I need to take my potion every day."
Ginny hugged her brother again, and then hugged her sister in law. Just as the three of them were chatting, there was a soft knock on the door. The healer opened the door, and Neville walked in looking very concerned.
"You've got another visitor, Ms. Weasley!" She noted with a smile.
"It's actually Mrs. Longbottom." Ginny corrected with a smile on her face.
Neville let out a sigh of relief at that as he walked over to Ginny. "The head healer said your wounds are almost healed and I'll be able to take you home tomorrow. So, you're back to being Mrs. Longbottom, I hope you're not too disappointed." Neville tried to joke.
Ginny slowly stood up and put her hands on Neville's face. "Neville, I am so sorry that I didn't take my potion and ended up hurting myself. I promise you that I am going to take it every day from now on. You are the most important person in my life, and I'm not going to let you down."
"Gin, I love you, you could never let me down." Neville said as he placed his hands over hers. "I'm just relieved that I get to take my wife home tomorrow."
Smiling, Ginny replied "There's absolutely nowhere I'd rather go and no one I'd rather go with."
