A follow up drabble to Regret.
A Walk By The Lake
Hermione was lost in thought as she walked around the lake. It was the day after Harry had seemed to die, only to come back and defeat Voldemort. All of the events from that evening were swirling through her mind. As ecstatic as she was to see Harry, she was also disappointed that she hadn't been able to get any alone time with him to see how he really was. Not that she had really believed that Harry wouldn't have been surrounded by mobs of people all night. After Ron, Harry, and Hermione had spoken to Dumbledore, they thought it would be best to go straight to Gryffindor tower. As soon as the Fat Lady spotted them she smiled warmly and thanked them heartily for defending the school. After being let into the common room, the three were so exhausted that they decided to just go straight to bed before anyone else came up and wanted to talk to the three of them. Despite her preoccupied mind, Hermione had fallen asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. After a night of dreaming of a pair of intense green eyes, Hermione woke up, and looked at her alarm clock. It was only 7am, and the silence that greeted her ears made her believe that she must be one of the only people awake already. Deciding to take advantage of the quiet, Hermione dressed quickly and headed down to the lake to think. As she walked, Hermione couldn't help think of all the things Harry had gone through, not only during the horcrux hunt, but ever since he was left on the Dursley's door step. Hermione could feel someone staring at her, so she turned around. Looking in the direction of the castle, she saw that Harry was walking towards her. As he walked, Harry was staring intensly at her. Looking deep into his gorgeous eyes, Hermione made a decision. She barely registered the look of surprise that flitted across Harry's face as she ran towards him. Giving herself no time to talk herself out of it, Hermione flung her arms around Harry's neck and kissed him. After the briefest of hesitations, Harry returned her kiss with just as much intensity and passion. Hermione began running her hands through Harry's hair as he put his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him. After several blissful moments, the two ended the kiss and looked deep into each others eyes.
"I've been so stupid!" Harry and Hermione said at the same time. They both grinned, realizing that once again, they knew what the other was thinking.
Still smiling, Hermione held out her hand and said "I was just about to sit under our favorite tree. Stay with me?"
Harry smiled as he took her hand and said "Forever".
I know the timing is off, seeing as Harry commented something about it being nearly dawn when he went to die, but I'm pretending that the trio had spent a considerable amount of time in the Great Hall with the rest of the survivors before they went to speak to Dumbledore. :p I have an idea for a companion piece from Harry's POV if you fine folks are interested.
