The question is, how do we keep everyone excited and active? I just feel like everyone is so busy in the real world and in other internet endeavors, that HL just sort of comes in third place in terms of what gets attention. And should we even really fight that--it's a fun hobby, not a lifestyle by itself, right?
I find lately that a lot of the fics cover ground that I'm not particularly interested in reading. I've just thought it was me being me, with my own personal preferences and such. And that's not to say that authors should write for readers, necessarily, they should write what they want, but I still get to be a choosy reader. Perhaps it's a system-wide issue? Which prompted my muses of the original post -- DM/M, the big OTP of the fandom, just doesn't show up as much anymore. Perhaps we are burnt out on it, or perhaps the authors have creatively gone in different directions.
I don't know. I know I wish hings were busier, more active, but I don't know why it's slumped (or even if it has--maybe it hasn't and I just feel that way, but erroneously) or what could be done to revitalize and re-energize everyone. Sometimes I think the stories get slurped up so fast that there's hardly a burp afterwards. And there's also a certain love and pining for authors who wrote earlier on in the fandom and who have moved on. What's a new author supposed to do against that sort of high tide/low tide thing?
