Lynne had grown weary of being so ignored by those around her. It felt sometimes like she was invisible beside Loki and it wouldn't have bothered her except for the fact that she was certain it wasn't because she was with him as much as it was because she was a lowly human being who hadn't yet proven herself worthy of being there at all. It was getting old fast and after a few meals and a night of almost entirely restful sleep upon having finally been able to see Loki again and know for herself that he was all right, Lynne was ready. Either she was going to succeed and prove them all assholes for the way they'd been treating her or she was going to fail and prove them right...in which case, the sooner she knew, the sooner she'd get back home to a place where she was no longer an equal with bugs crushed underfoot with no regard to their feelings whatsoever.
She'd slept poorly the previous night, dreaming of her failures; of Loki deciding that she was as worthless as found herself to be after watching her fail her Trials. Never the less, she forced down a breakfast and stood by the window in her room, staring out and attempting to calm herself; to find some zen place in her mind so that she would be fresh and mentally prepared for whatever it was that she might face. Lynne was dressed in an outfit she'd forced Loki to choose for her the night before citing his expertise in the tests that she was due to endure trumping her expertise in colors and shapes when deciding what she ought to wear. Her chest rose and fell slowly as she counted inwardly to keep track of her breathing. In on three, out on three; in on five, out on five, and back again. The breathing technique was her attempt at calming her nerves and trying to relax. Strength of heart. Mind over matter. I can totally do this. ...I have to, she told herself. Once this was over, she and Loki could move on with their lives, be it here or on Earth. Either way, it would be decided and the waiting game would be over with once and for all.
A knock at the door startled a gasp out of her and Lynne whirled around to face it, her breath catching before she reminded herself to try to continue the breathing technique even in spite of the thumping of her heart in her chest. Lynne could feel her pulse in her temples. She could hear it pounding in her ears. It was now or never, she supposed. Loki believed in her. She hoped that would be enough to keep her strong, because that was sort of what she was banking on. The door opened and Lynne lifted her chin in an attempt to look more confident. It was time. Here goes nothing...
