James wasn't one to give up. No, no, in fact, he was the person that did pretty much the opposite of that. He was the boy that would butt his head against a wall until it damn well accomplished what he wanted it to accomplish. He wasn't the guy that gave up. He was the troll, he was the guy that annoyed his own dad so bad that they communicated via gifs. He was the guy that was awesome. He was the guy that was no okay with his friends being hurt. He was the guy that liked to annoy people on purpose. In short, James was a lot of things. Quitter was never one of those things, though. He wasn't sure if his mom or Jillian counted as people to use against him, but he sure as hell hoped not because after what Tessa went through he was taking his crack at this shit. Not that he thought he was better than Tessa in any way, but he was kind of pissed that something had obviously happened to his friend. He might not have ever seemed it to anyone, but he was the kind of guy that would act for his friends. He took pride in that fact, especially considering his dad cared about so few people out there, other than his mom.
After talking to Tessa online, James couldn't help but make the decision that he made. Really, he was one of the big guns here, there were a few of them. Jacob, James, and Tessa were easily some of the most powerful kids here at the moment. If they couldn't get everyone out then everyone was shit out of luck. That was all there was to it, really. So, he was going to tear at the damn barrier like a battering ram. He was going to hit it again and again. He was going to keep getting back up and going for it. If at first you don't succeed then try again until you can't try any more god damn it! That was the motto that he was going to go by for this. It wasn't as if anyone that could be used against him was going to be here anyway!
So, he rushed in. And he got thrown back. And he went back at it, and he had to repeat the process a lot. Each time he got back up after being thrown out of the woods it got harder than the last. Not physically, nope. James didn't really have many physical limits. No, it got hard mentally. He heard her. His mom. And then Jillian. He heard them both at different times. Screaming. And it wasn't just that, there was more. He heard things, they said things that they never would have said, or he hoped they never would have said those things any way.
James lost count of the number of times that he went back in, but finally....it just got to be too much. He was hurled back into the city, crashing to the ground. Of course he created a crater. And of course he just laid there, refusing to move, his mind buzzing with it all. He couldn't figure out what the hell they were supposed to do. If he and the others couldn't get them out they weren't getting out until whatever it was that had put them there let them out.
What was it? Was it the Seal? Who the fuck knew.
James was nowhere near happy. He let his eyes fall shut, giving into a moment of dejection. He had no idea what to do. And Tessa had been right. Whatever this was had used people he cared about against him.
