Who: All students and Professors at Hogwarts What: The start of a new year, sorting and a feast When: Evening, September 1 Where: Beginning at the Platform in Hogsmeade and Ending in the Great Hall
As the students exited the train, Professor Hagrid shepherded the first years away from the rest of the student body. He checked their attire, ensured they had their wands, and assured them that their belongings would be waiting for them in their dormitories once they were sorted into houses. Then the large man led them to the boats that waited to carry them across the lake.
Kevin watched with the same awe and wonder as many of the other students as they crossed in the dark. A light rain began to fall as the boats drifted into a cave on the shore opposite the train station. Professor Hagrid led them as a group to the top of the stairs where they were given directions before being brought into the side of the Great Hall to listen to the Sorting Hat's song.
As old foes come together Only time will tell If the wounds of the past Have mended well The times of tears and sorrow Have all but gone away As a new generation Makes their way today
Is your home in Gryffindor Where those with nerve shall stay The bold and brave arrive And always find their way Or are you a true Hufflepuff Fair and straight and loyal You meet your best friends today And share with them your toil Perhaps you are a Slytherin The purest of them all But will your strive for power Ultimately be your fall Alas you may be Ravenclaw Already read the books Your wit and brains protect you From others jealous looks
Unlike the past you will not find Seclusion to your house Unless you hide yourself away Like a shy little mouse As time goes and you grow More similarities you’ll find That all houses blend together In a common frame of mind
And thus my words shall ring today Forever captured in a tome As you come up one by one And find your brand new home
