Dinner with the Potter Family!
Who: James Potter and NPC (Harry, Ginny, Albus and Lily Potter)
What: Dinner time!
When: June 23rd
Where: The Potter's kitchen
Dinners within the Potter house during the summertime usually proved to be interesting. Having the three children gathered around their table made Ginny and Harry Potter very pleased, but often this only opened up the possibility for sibling rivalries.
James was completely guilty of instigating fights. In fact, he often counted how many comments he could slip in about, say, the horrors of Hogwarts, just to watch his Hogwarts-bound, 11 year old brother squirm. When his parents weren't restraining themselves from laughter, they did reprimand him, but usually his tales were too tall to bother with.
Tonight for instance, the children were on the subject of the food served in the Great Hall.
"Is it true the dishes continue to refill themselves?" piped up Albus, directing the question more at his parents than anyone else.
"Yeah, and they randomly empty too," James replied, not even looking up from his chicken. "That's where I learned how to eat quickly."
His father's mouth twitched, and James could have sworn his mother's did too.
Lily seemed perplexed by this though. "Why wouldn't you just cast a spell to make the food stay?"
James did look up at this comment. "Are you kidding? I wouldn't be able to match the magic of the elves that work in the kitchens."
Harry cut in with a clearing of his throat. "Food never disappeared," he informed the younger two. "If James's food disappeared, one of his friends did that, using a banishing charm on it or something of the like." He loved dinners with his family, since they sometimes became scarce when his duties as an Auror kicked in, but sometimes the babble got to him. Harry gave his son a telling look, and then he returned back to his meal.
"James's food disappeared because he ate it so fast that he forgot he ate it," Ginny joked, spooning Lily some more green beans.
James scowled, and so did Lily.
"I ate enough green beans," whined the youngest.
"I'm sure, Mum," James scoffed sarcastically.
Harry gave his wife an appreciative look, while Albus sat in silent.
"If your food does anything odd, tell Uncle Neville, Albus," Ginny reassured her middle child, knowing how nervous he was about Hogwarts.
Just run off to Uncle Neville, Alby, he thought to himself. James didn't like being so closely associated with a Professor, except when he needed a hand getting out of trouble.
"I'm done," James announced, showing everyone his practically clean plate.
"You don't want any more?" asked his mother, only slightly concerned.
"Nah, I'm going to go out for a quick fly," James returned, giving his dad a sideways glance. He left the table to go retrieve his broom, only to be met outside five minutes later by his dad who was ready for a nice fly.
