WHO: Virginia, Castiel, and his family. WHAT: Having dinner with his mum and pretending to be in love to convince her not to set Castiel up anymore. WHERE: The Derrick Mansion. WHEN: Eveningish. RATING: PG if anything, for the "fake love". STATUS: Incomplete/Closed.
Awkward. Awkward, awkward, awkward, except not, because as they were sitting here at the dinner table, side by side, they weren't allowed to be awkward. According to the vivid picture the pair of them had painted for the benefit of Castiel's mum, Virginia and her best mate were wildly in love - and while this may have been an out and out lie as far as the pair of them were concerned, people who were in love were rarely awkward around one another, and so tonight was nothing but an intricate, intricate act.
Which explained why his hand was currently touching her leg. And for the pair of them it wasn't completely out of place, exactly, but there was a warmth to it - Castiel was obviously more experienced at this faking things for his parents' benefit than she was - that was a bit telling. Her smile was genuine enough, seeing as she had to be at least a reasonably good actor in order to be an Unspeakable - secrecy was practically the entire job, after all - but there was a small part of her inside that was shaking for fear of being obvious. As the house elves did their clearing the table of dinner and preparing to bring out dessert, she reached over and allowed her fingers to play over his shoulder, smiling at him with what might seem like an honestly blissful look on her face to anyone else, but for Castel and only Castiel, there was a glint in her eye that was questioning what on earth they were doing.
For the most part, she had let him do all the talking, but it had been necessary for her to say a few words here and there, usually in response to questions, in order to reassure the family that she was of course in love with their son, yes, she went to all of his Quidditch matches, she was proud of him as well! As of now, however, they'd been silent for a few moments, at least on the topic of their undying love. Her train of thought was broken an instant later, however, as she was addressed by Castiel's mum. "So when's the wedding?"
