It was late. Raleigh rarely went to bed at a decent hour. And when he brought his work to bed with him, and kept the lamps lit as he reviewed notes and went over reports, he often kept Zachary up with him. Tonight was one of those nights. Raleigh had looked over this particular account until he practically had it memorised. And yet, part of him wasn't satisfied.
With a puff of frustration and exhaustion, Raleigh closed the small binder he had everything in. He put it on the bedside table and made sure all the papers were organised and secure before he turned, trying to get comfortable in the bed now. "I suppose I should sleep a bit. Perhaps looking at it in the morning with fresh eyes will be better," he concluded. Raleigh extinguished the light on his side and moved down into the bed a bit more.
"Goodnight, Zach," he said routinely. He was silent for a few moments, thinking about the past week and just a lot of memories he had collected with Zach. It was actually rather bittersweet. "Goodnight and," he began again. "I love you," he said in a quieter tone. Though he had said it plenty of times, Raleigh had started to obviously notice how it had been an incredibly long time since he had heard those words from Zachary's lips---years maybe. "Feel free to not answer back, or to just grunt or to change the subject entirely. I'm starting to get used to that response, after all," he added bitterly with a certain kind of sadness.
