Dani + Open
Grandma had wanted to go to the holiday BBQ, and there wasn’t a chance on earth that Dani or Alex would say no to the old woman. Instead, Dani had gotten up ridiculously early to do all of the baking that her grandmother usually did. There was red, white, and blue cake that was a lemon with lemon frosting, with strawberries and blueberries placed on it to look like the American flag. Then she had made three dozen chocolate chip cookies, not counting the ones lost to greedy hands that had stolen them before she had even set them out. It wasn’t even just Alex, it was their niece and nephew, Alex’s brother, and her grandmother when they had stopped to pick her up.
Dani had been able to wrap up all of her baking in time to grab a quick shower, get dressed in a cute strawberry romper, and even do her make-up with a vibrant red lip. She had even swept those wild curls up into a messy ponytail that bounced when she moved, held up by a banana clip.
It had been a long day, and as the night was starting to wind down, Dani was heading towards the firepits. She was hoping to find someone making s’mores, she had no idea where her graham crackers were, and was certain that they were at home on their kitchen counter. Instead of looking for Alex to confirm that he didn’t have them, she stopped at the first person she saw with marshmallows on sticks at the bonfire. “Hey! You don’t happen to have graham crackers do you? I completely forgot mine,” she asked with a friendly smile, hoping the other person was making s’mores too.
