Re: Astrid and Gael (and Open)
“Well, obviously,” Astrid chuckled, because to her, his sister wanting to remind him what he had been missing just made sense. “And just see what’s sprung up while you’ve been gone,” leaning back, she stretched her leg and gestured to herself like she was one of the best things to have happened to this place while he’d been gone. But though his question sobered her slightly, it didn’t diminish her smile, it simply made it warmer. “Yeah, that would be the friend. He said he’d be here around midnight because he had to get his room mate from work before they showed up, so…” At this point she had lost track of the time, and didn’t even know if it was even time for her to start looking for Michael yet.
“I hadn’t even thought of that when you said you were on the swim team,” Astrid admitted, “but I can imagine that must be a big plus to being back home again.” His question had her chuckle softly, because it was barely a week ago, that she had told Michael pretty much the same story. “Well, when I left home in Phoenicia, I had just enough money for a tiny, cheap apartment over in Valhalla. Spent a couple of years as a bike messenger there, and then one day at the gym this lady asked me if I could help get her the same kind of muscle definition as me. She paid me to be her trainer and little by little I worked up a group of clients, and when I had enough money for a better apartment, I found one here in town and just felt right at home. So, it’s really just as simple as that; there was a free apartment that I liked.”
Slowly Astrid nodded at Gael’s explanation. “I think it makes sense, yeah,” she agreed. There was no way she could ever truly understand, she knew that, due to the simple fact, that she was not a Selkie. But she believed she had caught the general gist of it. Besides, they were at a party, and they were here to have fun and “Oh! Uhm… Aside from it being a body armor, I can fly and, uhm… I…” this was usually the hardest part to explain to people. “I can collect the souls of fallen heroes and take them to Valhalla and Fólkvangr.” Not exactly party talk, but then she remembered. “I guess I didn’t tell you that I’m a Valkyrie, did I?”
